(Not) Faked photos of 3G iPhone
The folks at iLounge provided us with a link to real photos of a 3G iPhone body, along with commentary on the new design. It's refreshing to finally see actual photos of the new iPhone instead of badly Photoshopped mockups. One close-up of the back of the black 3G iPhone shows that the material being used for the shell picks up very visible smudges and fingerprints, with the suggestion from Jeremy Horwitz that this may end up making the white model much more popular.
The iLounge article speculates that a Product (RED) 3G iPhone may be available in late 2008 or early 2009. If you're wondering if your current iPhone case or accessories will work with the the new device, Horwitz feels that products that are designed to work for either existing iPhones or iPod Touch should be fine. However, docks, cases, and other accessories that were designed only for the first generation iPhone will not work.
I, for one, am happy to see that Apple is making sure the iPhone / iPod economy continues to thrive!

What happened to Apple going away from the old iPod look and going towards the new one? (although it is actually a throwback to the old Mini design)
While you cannot deny the sexiness of the subtle changes, going from aluminum to plastic makes absolutely no sense to me.
Black with InvisaSheild for me please. :-)
June 10 2008 at 4:33 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWell this is interesting. The black is sexy, and I definitely want black, but I plan on my iPhone being in a case from day one. In fact, I've got my heart set on something exactly like the Agent 18 Eco Shield, so the color of the phone is irrelevant. I might go with white for the rare time it's out of the case.
Also, though the white is the logical choice for naked iPhoners, I'm guessing black is going to be more popular due to the pure sexy factor. White may be more available in the days following release.
While black may be sexy, it shows smudges too well (I'm always embarrassed about the ear grease on my iPhone, despite daily cleaning and yes I do shower!) White, well, take a look at any MacBook more than a week old. Black Macbooks too, come to think about it. Too bad the red will be delayed and possibly pricier. And I am a person who ordinarily prizes functionality over looks. So while it won't keep my from buying one, I prefer the aluminum.

June 10 2008 at 3:58 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDo you have an iPhone? Then you have a first generation iPhone.
June 10 2008 at 4:02 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIf you can hold your iPhone right now, then it is a first generation one. The new iPhone ain't out yet.
June 10 2008 at 4:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI would like to know if the face or screen is the same size to the current iphone, if people have all these "LEAKED PICTURES" Someone , somewhere has to have a side by side comparison .

Kind of an OT question, from a guy who doesn't know much about how these things work:
Is the lack of MMS something that can be upgraded via a software upgrade, or not?
Yes. MMS can be added through software with little to no effort on Apple's part. Just have the images show up in the bubbles, just like direct connection chat on iChat when sending photos.
It boggles my mind that they don't just add this feature and give the haters less firepower.
