Tip of the Day
To find out what version of Mac OS you are running, go to the Apple logo in the top left corner, click it and choose About This Mac. From that window you will see the version number, processor, memory and chosen startup disk. Clicking Software Update will check for updates, and More Info... will open up an extensive list of everything on your machine.

I love posts like this because it's all in the details.
Though, on a side note, that bluetooth icon has been there from the beginning if you have bluetooth turned on.

re:Bluetooth icon
I was gonna say that! You stole my line! Waaahh...

The footer on the mobile me filesharing email is not promotional, but instructional: "If you are having problems accessing this file, copy and paste the link below into your web browser."
It's not a pitch, but a set of instructions.

Yeah, I was just going to say that...

I agree. If you read it, it's fairly obvious that it's not a promo (though they didn't shy away from using that flashy mobileme badge). I'd bet that same badge won't be on your regular emails.

And a quick read to check it makes sense would be good too.
"A brief look at a MobleMe gallery on an AppleTV. Of course, this suggests that an Apple TV is forthcoming."
Apple TV is forthcoming? It's already here!
Apple TV UPDATE is forthcoming.... would make some sense

Strongly branded instructions, but instructions nonetheless.
Thanks for posting the images. I hope we can get more views of the Mobile Me stuff.

I would hazard to guess that the e-mail footer is only present when you "Share files" from your iDisk, as in the image. Sharing the file sends an automated message with a link, and the footer is useful if your e-mail client doesn't support HTML. More probably, mobile me mail will look like .mac mail (on the web) and allow you to set your own signature(s). Why wouldn't it? It's not like it's a free, ad-supported service.

This may sound trivial to some however I use The 'to-do' function present within Ical heavily. For some reason you cannot access these on an Iphone. Where in the 2.0 build is the ability to view to-do's? I am struggling to come up with a convincing argument as to why this has been ommitted (again). To search through 4 pages of Imap folders to access the system wide to do's is cumbersome.

TUAW, not sure you posted this already. On minute 6:42 of the video the Microsoft Outlook bar reads "Not Responding". Granted this not a real UI change though...

So Outlook is running normally, what's your point?

and I would kill to have a week-view pop up when I turn my iPhone sideways in the Cal app.

The address book being used in OS X looks different than mine on 10.5.3. Where they show the address book contacts pictures in particular - it looks much more polished than what I've got. No?

gosh, the gallery of TUAW sucks!
can't you use a more decent slideshow that doesn't reload the whole page when I move next/previous?

This looks really nice, but my question is, if I buy .Mac now (i.e. at the heavily discounted price available on Amazon for the family pack), after the announcement of mobileme, will I still get the upgrade to mobileme?
Reply
Jonesy said 10:46AM on 6-10-2008
Yes. All .Mac accounts switch and you retain the @mac.com email addresses.
Galley said 10:44AM on 6-10-2008
Yes, all current .Mac customers get upgraded for free. This might be the only way to still get a mac.com address.
imatt said 10:12AM on 6-10-2008
something of concern to me: will you still be able to use iWeb to create a website (photos, BLOG, videos, etc.) in the same vein as .Mac allowed (and the option to use another domain)? NOTHING has been said about this. This was the biggest feature that attracted me to .Mac, yet I was holding out for this impending update.
The iWeb page under iLife hasn't been updated (ie, still lists .Mac) as of last night.

I have dot mac for a couple of years now , and what is not clear to me is what we are gonna loose in comparising to dot mac, speccially in the syncing part, i have the feeling it will be only adresses an ical and email, and no more preferences and the more mac orientated stuff.
It would be great if there would be some kind of comparising chart here on TUAW ,dotMac vs. Mobileme .

To above comments MobileMe will work in exactly the same way .Mac did but with added extras.
