Firefox 3 Download Day is June 17th

Firefox Download Day

As we noted a few weeks ago, the Mozilla team has set up a pledge program to remind Firefox users to download the Firefox 3 browser within 24 hours of its release in order to nab a Guinness World Record.

Well, the day is getting close - Firefox Download Day 2008 is scheduled for June 17th around the world. As of 11 AM MDT on June 14th, 2008, 1,221,679 people had pledged to get their copy of the new Firefox release on Download Day. It's not too late to take the pledge and help Mozilla spread browser goodness throughout the planet.

… can’t get a connection. this is really bad, i thought at least they wouldn’t have the famous server issue, when trying such a record. I tried for 5 minutes to refresh my browser. it’s no use, and so they can’t count on my vote.

What do you mean by Download day. It is now 18:30 in RSA (12:30 US ET) and still no FF3. If you can't meet yor own deadline why even try for a "record"?

I just hope Mozilla's servers don't crash.

One of the sad aspects of a monster download of Firefox 3 is that any site built using the latest iWeb software will no longer show properly on lots of browsers. These sites show fine in Firefox 2, but something still needs tweaked with the forthcoming browser for these Mac built sites to view properly.

Either that, or iWeb could simply just generate good code that conforms to established Web standards.

It's not the browser's fault that iWeb sites dont render properly. It's iWeb's fault.

@Blatz

Or maybe, since those sites work fine in the much better webstandards supporting Safari, they ARE coded to standards and its Firefox's fault?

This isn't going to get any kind of record. Not even close... I bet the average Windows update goes through 10 times that in a day. Adobe flash gets 6 million a day.

What it will get is lots of publicity, which is good I guess.. but forget about the record.
