WWDC '08: Mike Lee (Tapulous)
Mike Lee (yes, the self-proclaimed world's toughest programmer) has a new project called Tapulous. Last time we spoke with Mike, he was part of Delicious Monster but has since moved his focus to the iPhone. Tapulous includes several prominent names from the jailbreak community (including Polar Bear Farm) and is working on a family of "social iPhone applications." We talk about that ... and Lemurs, of course, but that was at my insistence.

"Who are those guys and why are they looking at me"
Maybe because you are 220 pounds, wearing a bright red shirt, and are carrying a stuffed monkey. But that's my guess...

I personally can't listen to this guy talk. He needs to take some speech and enunciation classes if he's going to try and sway me on a new iPhone app, especially one that he made. Granted, he may be a great developer and have vast amounts of knowledge I would respect, but in order to effectively communicate his passion with verbal words, he needs to take some classes on speaking.

this looks a lot fractionating, which is a form of mind manipulation through stuttering. one could google NLP.

What is this guy's problem? This is the second of his interviews that I've listened to that has made me cringe. I'm so tired of hearing about social apps. Mike fits Merlin Mann's definition of a webcock perfectly. I would add that he's well on his way to lemurcock as well.

Ooooh. "Several big names from the jailbreak community"? I can't wait for the social networking version of Roll The Ball Through The Maze and the social networking version of Shake The iPhone And Watch The Leaves Fall Off The Tree. And let's face it; what could be more social networking than the iPhone program there are dozens of versions of -- Hello World. Here's my credit card number... just send me the binaries when they're done!

i really cant understand the level of intolerance that almost all posters before me has shown about this man.
really inexcusable levels of low-life comments from all of you.
i have exactly the opposite reaction to him.
after hearing him talk i want to invest money in this man's company thats how sure I am that he is connected, and passionate about ensuring that his work pays off in terms of market share AND personal growth and satisfaction.
fantastic sales pitch for his company and him.
i even want to support the Lemur cause he mentioned.
he is totally real.
totally connected to cutting edge work.
for the rest of you: get a life.
maybe some of you were more than a bit jealous of him being able to work in the way he does.

omg I respect this guy's work and what not but he really is boring to listen to. His apps sound cool but he needs to take a class in public speaking so he can learn how to keep the viewers attention. Because this is just boring.

Wow, really? Flash video with no link to an ipod-compatible format? On an Apple weblog? Thanks, guys.

I thought the same thing when I clicked on the story. I tried to reload it, thinking my iPod touch didn't load correctly. Thanks, tuaw, thanks for knowing you readers...

he told us in his interview that he grew up (partially) in Hawaii.
if he were less kind, he would in fact be making fun of the way you write and talk as a haole.
i say "if". because he makes it clear in the interview that social networking is important and he considers everyone to be (potentially) a friend. probably even including you.
i have scores of friends who think and talk like him. and they are the best people in the world.
again i say: you guys need to get out more and meet actual people who dont come from yr own backgrounds.
