WWDC '08: Agile Web Solutions (1Password)

Dave and Roustem from Agile Web Solutions, authors of the form-filling powerhouse known as 1Password, were happy to talk about WWDC, Mac development and the future of 1Password and its upcoming iPhone counterpart. We've taken quite a few notes as 1Password has developed, and while I love the iPhone bookmarklet, I'm excited to see work being done on a native app!

There were laughs, tears and some pronounced (and lovable) Canadian colloquialisms. And that's just in the 10 minutes that survived the editing. Video after the jump.

Moving away from the keychain will be a great step. Keychain itself is a great app, but i had several problems with it in combination with 1password when i deleted keychain passwords, or changed my old passwords on pages and saved them for auto-fill. Sometimes the data that got synced on my iphone was half the old passwords still in the keychain, half the actual passwords.

Was not happy with that. If 1password gets its own system this won't happen again and will make the app much cleaner.

It's great to hear about 1Password developing a native iPhone app and expanding the desktop app as well, but I have two questions.

- is this possible that you'll be able to use your passwords as long as you're logged in to the application (mentioned around 8:00)? I mean, it can't be a background app and there are no plugins for Mobile Safari, are they?

- also, I take it that the version of 1Passwd on Mac that will drop keychain (or at least offer an alternative) will be a major release - is it going to be a paid upgrade (say, 3.0?), don't get me wrong, I'll still buy it in an instant, just curious ;) also, are there any plans for a beta with this enabled?

- You are correct about the background apps and plugins on iPhone. We have a few ideas and I hope you will like what you see in the new fiew weeks.

- We currently have an internal beta; the public beta will be available after we sort out all most of the known issues and get the sync with iPhone application finished.

I don't usually gush terms of endearment about an application or its developers, but this is one of those rare apps that deserves it! This is one of my favorite applications for osx and its definitely the one I use the most.

I really enjoyed this video. 1Passwrod is probably one of my most used (albeit nearly transparent) applications on my Mac. Going back to the old method of one semi decent password and having to remember all the various permutations of my online nick would drive me insane. My hats off to these guys and the work they do.
