Keep your iPhone from losing its cookies
I've been getting more and more frustrated with the fact that every time I load up Google Reader on my iPhone, I have to log in again. I tried it with and without my 1Password bookmarklet, checked my javascript and cookie settings, all to no avail. And it's not just Reader, everywhere I turn, I'm logging in again. It was with great relief that I discovered the cure.
iRemember is a lightweight hack that makes a few tweaks and tells you it's "safe to uninstall" before Installer even finishes cleaning up. Do you have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch with a foggy memory? Add http://repo.ispazio.net to your sources in Installer, refresh and search for iRemember. Your favorite web apps will give you a much warmer welcome.

I understand that it fixes cookies, but what does it do? What does "safe to uninstall" have to do with it?

It just does some chmodding and chowning (changing the owner from "root" to "mobile" in this case). That, of course, won't be revised when uninstalling.

It probably just change owner and permission of a directory.
I did it using Transmit via SFTP connection.
username: root
password: alpine
Then browse to /var/mobile/
select Cookie folder, CMD-I (displays info), check all those checkbuttons Read, Write, Execute
Apply to enclosed folder.
Done.

I'd guess it fixes permissions on the location the cookies are stored in... that's apparently a bug in 1.1.4.

For the last several months Facebook has continuously made me login for every link I clicked. I thought it was an issue with Facebook, but I now see it wasn't. I'm one happy college student now!

If i get this right this only happened to some users? And it only corrects the "after closing safari all sites have to log in again" thingy?
So if i log in on a site, close and re-open safari, and i still can click private messages etc, i don't need this fix, right or wrong?

I'm not sure how many users this affected. I know I have not been affected by it. I haven't run this patch and the sites I visit remember me just fine.
If you don't have any issues, no need to do anything.

This "fix" has been out for many months under 1.1.4 Cookie Fix. I'm in total shock that it just now hit TUAW lol. Anyways... congrats to those that are just finding this. It makes using the internet on the iPhone fun again.

I installed something like this back in early April. It was one of the first things I did after i jailbroke the iPod Touch. It was called 1.1.4 Cookie Fix and I have had no problems with it. Just humming along nicely. I think the source was http://appledailytimes.com
I have found other quirks, but honestly, I'm not fixing anything right now. I'm confident that 2.0 will smooth out all the quirks and make the cat box smell like gourmet chocolate.
