iPhone SDK Beta 8 Released
The update is 1.25GB in size, and includes iPhone firmware revision 5a345. Typically, if the revision ends in a number, it's a pretty stable release. According to sources familiar with the release notes, things got a lot more stable in the last two weeks, since revision 5a331.
Also mentioned along with the update is a developer-only version of iTunes 7.7, which developers can use to "install iPhone OS Beta 8 on your Apple devices." The new version of iTunes doesn't seem to be included with the 1.25GB update, however, and developers -- apparently -- are having a hard time finding it on Apple's website and is now available to developers as a separate download.
More details about the SDK will be available here as we learn them, and will probably be posted to Apple's iPhone Developer Site when they're available. Tips, as always, are welcome at our tip line. We're happy to take a look at confidential information, and your anonymity is our guarantee.

Who's to say that this ISN'T the GM?
Especially considering they're releasing a dev version of iTunes with it.

The iPhone SDK readme for this states:
What's New
Beta release 8 is compatible with the final iPhone OS 2.0 release and must be used to build and sign any iPhone OS application to be submitted to the App Store. As a reminder, you must be a member of the iPhone Developer Program to submit apps.

So does this mean iPhone OS 2.0 5a345 is the final release? That would be great.

This doesn't mean that the firmware is 1.25gb does it? That would be awful if it is!

First of all apple would not release a firmware that big because it would be really unstable with a bunch of extras but whether I am right on that part or not doesn't matter. The 1.25 gb update is an update to the whole SDK so that includes the firmware and developer tools.

The actual iPhone SDK portion of the update is around 23MB.

So what will the first version of the Final SDK be called? SDK 1? Just iPhone SDK? (with later releases having 1.x titles? ie. iPhone SDK 1.0.1, 1.1)

Devs,
Can we get a direct link to the iTunes 7.7? (for fellow devs who can't seem to find the link...still.

It's not available to everyone. Just those that have fully enrolled and have paid their $99 fee, not the basic open SDK Beta.

I don't see iTunes 7.7 on the developer site . Can someone post a link?

BTW, if clicking on the download link does not work for you, try to copy the URL to clipboard and then edit it -- replace
http://developer.apple.com/iphone/download.action?path=
with
http://adcdownload.apple.com

Apples just like MS, you must pay to get the beta software. If you are not a paid developer, then you dont get iTunes 7.7. I wish they would have posted everything at once, because i was phoneless for about 90 minutes, but now i am operational
