iPhone SDK Beta 8 Released
Apple has released iPhone SDK Beta 8 (9m2199) in preparation for launching the iPhone App Store in the near future. Additionally, iPhone beta certificates issued before June 9 have also expired. Applications must be associated with a certificate issued after June 9 in order to work with the iPhone.
The update is 1.25GB in size, and includes iPhone firmware revision 5a345. Typically, if the revision ends in a number, it's a pretty stable release. According to sources familiar with the release notes, things got a lot more stable in the last two weeks, since revision 5a331.
Also mentioned along with the update is a developer-only version of iTunes 7.7, which developers can use to "install iPhone OS Beta 8 on your Apple devices." The new version of iTunes doesn't seem to be included with the 1.25GB update, however, and developers -- apparently -- are having a hard time finding it on Apple's website and is now available to developers as a separate download.
More details about the SDK will be available here as we learn them, and will probably be posted to Apple's iPhone Developer Site when they're available. Tips, as always, are welcome at our tip line. We're happy to take a look at confidential information, and your anonymity is our guarantee.

Thank you so much for the leak, Norpan !
I suppose that iPod version won't activate if I'm not a developer ?

That makes me happy, and also makes me realize I should have been working on artwork this whole time instead waiting. Blast!

June 26 2008 at 11:31 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyDoes 7.7 do anything "bad" to an existing iTunes library?
I've got a couple thousand of my wife and my CDs in the library, and I don't want to lose it all...
Damnit - just flick the switch on MobileMe already.
The inability to Sync both Exchange and iCal is becoming BEYOND frustrating.
Something - just make it work! ! !
As the "warning label" says -- iTunes 7.7 is pre-release software, covered by the same NDA as the SDK/iPhone beta firmware. And it is being made available only for the purpose of installing the Beta 8 firmware on iPhones/touches.
So... if you don't have access to the beta firmware thru the iPhone Dev portal... you aren't likely to be able to access this prerelease version of iTunes 7.7. (Which means if you aren't one of the 4K+ registered/paid iPhone developers (or your company isn't doing iPhone development)... you aren't going to be downloading iTunes 7.7 from Apple tonight.
Doesn't get much simpler than that...
Typical lame apple.
They want us to develop for their platform, but they want to be stingy with the tools to do it.
I love my iPhone, but I'm really beginning to hate apple.
Is iTunes 7.7 only for Select/Premier/iPhone $99 Program participants?
June 26 2008 at 9:20 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyApples just like MS, you must pay to get the beta software. If you are not a paid developer, then you dont get iTunes 7.7. I wish they would have posted everything at once, because i was phoneless for about 90 minutes, but now i am operational
