Original iPhone warranties about to expire
Do you hear that ticking noise? It's your iPhone's warranty preparing to go "boom." If you purchased your iPhone on the original US release date -- June 29, 2007 -- your warranty will expire in three days (as of this writing) on June 29th, 2008. Tick, tick.
Of course, you can extend coverage by purchasing AppleCare for the iPhone at $69.95US (or toss in an additional $129 for iPhone 3G). Otherwise, get yourself to an Apple Store Genius Bar ASAP!
If the iPhone is anything like most cars I've owned, everything will go wrong the very day after the warranty expires. I'm just saying.

My iPhone just gave me the message "iPhone needs repair" and about 30% of the screen will not respond to touch. I'm happy it was just before the warranty ran out and not just after. I can still use it until I get to an Apple store, but I have to be very creative to get around the dead spots. Anyone else have this problem?

I used to be a Mac Genius. Usually this is the result of moisture contacting the screen, which is why my iPhone is either on my person or up out of the reach of my kids when I am home–but always where I know they can't get to it without me. There are other causes, but the short version is that there are bad connections in the device. Do you ever leave it in the car? DON'T! That's good advice for any electronic product. I have seen many iPods ruined by overheating in cars.

I just took my 4GB iPhone back to the store this weekend because I didn't like the screen and it was replaced with a brand new one! (with another year of warranty).
There is nothing like a pristine iPhone with no dents or scratches in the aluminum!

What do you mean you didn't like the screen? I have a chip in my screen and I assumed I could not get it replaced under warranty.

@caleb: I had white streaks in the display. One on the right and left starting from the top, extending almost half way down the screen. The phone worked perfectly, well... maybe except for the camera going bananas on me sometimes.
The white streaks looked to be as a result from head. Maybe from charging.
If you are not happy, the best thing to do is to take it back and find out if they will swap it or not. Just make sure you express to them that you are not happy :)

I've had my entire phone replaced twice, but they didn't reset the warranty. $@#%!

Again, as a former Mac Genius, unless you bought a new iPhone your replacement is ONLY covered for 90 days (repair warranty) or the REMAINDER of the original warranty whichever is longer. This is the policy of every single warranty I have ever read for any product I have ever owned. Apple's choice is to replace not repair your iPhone. For legal warranty purposes, though, it is a repair and it does not start your warranty over again. If you are not planning to upgrade to the 3G iPhone, buy Applecare for $70.00 and get an extra year. I did.

Concept, I had the EXACT same problem...pretty annoying. I'm currently on my 3rd phone; first had the white streaks, the second suffered debilitating software crashes, and my current one is starting to show signs of battery failure. It's 6 months old with Applecare, so I'm not that worried.
Does anyone know if it's possible to transfer the Applecare from my current phone to a 3G when I (probably) pick it up on the 11th?

I'm on my 4th iPhone after many replacements and never any talk of resetting my warranty. Are you sure they reset your warranty or are you just being hopeful?

I bought my Apple Care Protection Plan last week.

FYI, the dead pixel policy on screens that size is ZERO ACCEPTABLE DEAD PIXELS. They swapped out my original 4GB version after verifying just one dead pixel near the edge of the screen.

AppleCare for the iPhone 3G is $129???

I think the point they were trying to make is:
AppleCare for the original iPhone is $69.95; for another $129 on top of the $69.95 you can get a a brand new 3G iPhone which comes with a one year warranty.

i brought my 8gb in last week because of the upcoming deadline (originally purchased 6/29 last year, of course), which has been crashing and restarting a lot lately, and the touchscreen occasionally became unresponsive. i've done several restores and it just did not help. they hooked it up to some fancy software at the Genius Bar and said it had several "events" in its log, mainly application crashes and the like, so they just handed me a 'brand new' refurb, with an additional 90 days of warranty!! not sure how concept10 got a real new one with a full year warranty, but kudos to you! anyway i'm happy with the perfect aluminum back and fresh(er) hardware - it'll make a nice unlocked phone when i pick up my 3G!

Eh, I'd rather spend the extra $129.00 if something goes wrong. This is exactly why I waited to decide if I should get the Apple Care. A year ago when a 8GB iPhone was $599, who would have thought you could get the 8GB 3G iPhone for $199?

Don't forget the early termination fee on top of that..
Adam said 11:00AM on 6-26-2008
Tony,
If you have an iPhone, AT&T has repeatedly stated that they will allow you to upgrade to the 3G model with no extra fee. You need to sign up for a new 2 year service period, though.

I'm good. I bought AppleCare. I had to have my iPhone swapped out in October due to some power issues but, the new one has been flawless and I have have kept it in pristine condition.
