Rogers announces iPhone rates in Canada

We've known for awhile that Rogers would be bringing the iPhone 3G to Canada, but we didn't know what kind of plans would be offered. Well, the wondering can stop because Rogers has just posted a website detailing all the service plans and features you can get for your iPhone in Canda, and how much it'll cost you.
As you can see from the above chart service plans start at $60 (Canadian) and go to $115. Interestingly, there is no unlimited data option which might cause trouble down the road when you load up your iPhone with lots of heavy network using 3rd party apps.
Check out Rogers' page for all the details.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

These low data plans smell like trouble. Is there (or will there be) a setting on the iPhone that allows contact to the internet (both for Safari and MobileME purposes) only by way of Wifi? - that is, unless I specifically tell my iPhone I want to use my data plan?

I second this question!
With my iPod Touch, I can choose which network to use.
I hope that I can use wifi from Fido Hotspots (they're free, right?) whenever possible and data only when I need to.

I think you can turn off web access via the 3g network, leaving you with just wifi. However, before you do, why not look at what people say about their average data use per month? Most people I know, and from what I read this morning on Apple Discussions, are coming in around the 100-300mb/month rate, including youtube use on the higher end. That's not too bad.

Well, there you have it... we now officially have the most expensive iPhone plans in the world to go along with the longest manadatory contracts! We're number 1!
Here's hoping that increased GSM competition in Canada will lead to better rates soon..

What competition... Rogers is the only GSM provider. Fido is owned by Rogers.

It's coming man... and sooner than Rogers would like!

Sweden got our plans for the iPhone today as well. They are worse. Especially when you consider that we have 3G USB modems with unlimited data for less than $30 a month. Here are the iPhone plans:
$50 (USD) a month you get 100 outgoing minutes and SMSes with 100mb of data. $80 gets you 250 of everything and $144 a month gets you 1000. http://telia.se/iphone the plans are in a table at the bottom and easy enough to decipher, currently the exchange rate is about 6 sek to 1 usd.

Canada always gets shafted when it comes to cell phone contracts.

Norway's got the worst and most expensive iPhone plans in the world. Similar structure to Sweden, but our prices are:
$80 -> 100 minutes, 100MB, 100 SMS.
$140 -> 250 minutes, 250MB, 250 SMS.
$220 -> 1000 minutes, 1000MB, 1000 SMS.
How about that?

I think the Danish iPhone prices beat you.
iPhone 3G: 300$ + 130$ a month including 300 minutes and only 300mb of data(!)
:( :(

These rates are definitely crap, but they're significantly better than I expected. So, I feel strangely satisfied.

Can someone please explain why Canadians are subjected to such high data costs? Is there something about data in Canada that warrants a per-MB charge?

Lack of government regulation over Rogers' anti-competitive monopoly abuses.

Sheesh. This company just doesn't get it. You'd think they would have at least had an after-hours unlimited data plan.
I certainly won't be subscribing to one of these plans. I'm already a Rogers customer - they don't say what their data rates would be if I got an iPhone and added data to my existing plan. Probably the existing $0.05/kB.
What a company.

What kind of roaming charges are there for Americans using their iPhone in Canada? I've heard horror stories about folks going to Europe. I'm terrified about my going to visit my folks in Canada.

$60 isn't bad... but 400MB a month is just not the way to use the device.
TOTAL cash grab.
Anyone know what the average data usage is in the US for the iPhone?
