Which upcoming goodie are you anticipating?
With only a week before July, we're eager to get our hands on the new goodies from Apple. With so much to look forward to and try out, we're wondering which of the pending updates you're most interested in.Is it Mobile Me's offer of "Exchange for the rest of us?" Perhaps it's iPhone software 2.0, or even the snazzy 3G iPhone you're waiting for.
Here's your chance to let us now. Add your answer to our highly unscientific poll, and we'll post the results tomorrow. Oh, it's like Christmas! In July. Or something.

With the extremely stupid prices and data plan that they made available in Norway, it will be "no more iPhone" for me and a _lot_ of people; it's just crazy, the cheapest option is 460 dollars for the phone plus 80 dollars every single month for 100MB of download (it becomes 200 dollars/month if you want the "unlimited" plan)
Crazy! :(

I'm actually anticipating all of those things. It was hard to pick just one. :-)

I chose Mobile Me, but the firmware update goes hand-in-hand with that. Push email and contact sync are what I've been trying to get for a long time.

The thing I'm anticipating the most is Erica Sadun as ringleader of the Whaaaaaambulence circus when the 3G iPhone is inevitably difficult to unlock, jailbreak, can't be "hacktivated", and won't work with their prepaid SIM cards. I'll never understand how someone with a PhD can't afford a normal cell phone bill or why Erica and her gang of cronies feel compelled to constantly rage against APP£E and $TEVE JOB$.
The best way to send a publicly traded corporation like Apple a message is by not giving them your money. Shocking, I know. If you want an open platform that you can do whatever stupid crap you want to do, wait for Android. If you want a 3G iPhone, you're going to have to play by Apple's rules.
...Or whine about it lots, I guess that's a viable alternative.

Hahaha...Who's driving the "Whaaaaaambulance" now?

Translation of the above for those who need it:
"Female writers shouldn't be allowed to encroach on my masculine technology world! Waugh! Waugh! Waugh!"
I get really sick of people bagging on Sadun when she hasn't even done anything. DAVE wrote this article, and yet you had to come in here and bitch about Erica Sadun for some reason; And she isn't here.
That stinks of either misogyny or just poor manners. Either way, it wasn't called for, and it's getting pretty damned annoying to see the He-Man Erica-Haters Club pounding their chests on TUAW.
I thought my fellow Apple users were generally progressive and open to other peoples' ideas, but I suppose there have to be *some* knuckle-draggers in the bunch somewhere.
My kudos go out to Erica, who puts up with a lot of utter crap from these guys and still maintains her dignity. She's proven to be a lot more classy than you.
Erica *enjoys* hacking stuff, and she's pretty damned good at it. A lot of us appreciate her tips and hacks. Who the hell are you to be such a jerk about her hobbies?
Jeez. Get your own blog if you don't like the way they do it here.
And lest you mistake this for a "white knight" moment, I'll divest you of that erroneous conjecture. I don't particularly care about Erica's gender. I DO care that you're calling someone out when they're not the author or subject of the article, nor have they commented on this topic today. It's classless, petty, and makes the rest of us in the Mac community look bad. Stop it.

Nice backstepping ZeroCorpse. You mention "Female writers shouldn't...", "masculine technology", "misogyny" and "He-Man", but then say "I don't particularly care about Erica's gender." Right. Nice way to use sex to try and make a point, but discount it when you don't need it in your argument.
Why don't you listen to your own words: "I thought my fellow Apple users were generally progressive and open to other peoples' ideas...". I guess that doesn't apply to you when you disagree with other people's ideas...

Mike, you should invest in some reading comprehension classes.
In all of the bits you dug out of that post, he was expressing his view of what's happening. Of what normally happens, and seems to be happening here, anytime a female steps up in this line of hobby. To say that her gender is irrelevant would be stupid, and he didn't. He said his reason for standing up for her WASN'T because of her sex, but because she doesn't deserve the beatings she takes on this blog.

There should be an 'All of the above' option. I lost my iPhone about a month ago :(, so I had to vote for the iPhone 3G since it is a prerequisite for the others.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to "all of the above" as well, and pretty much in the order of the actual poll results . :)

anyone knows if there will be backups or allowed re-downloads of your apps? if you buy 10 apps 10 Bucks each and then your harddrive dies, what happens? What happens to the people who bought iPhone Software 1.4 and now will buy 2.0 after they upgraded their ipod and their machine dies..... do they have to pay again to get that firmware for the ipod or does itunes "recognize" them and let them download it as often as they wish?

I would guess that iTunes will keep a backup on your computer's hard drive just like it does with iPod games now.
FoundInTheFlood said 11:43AM on 6-27-2008
Yes, that's for sure but what if your machine crashes? you cant get games from an ipod back, and even if you could, what if machine and ipod both crashed? other mp3 services offer infinite downloads of the same file, does itunes still just allow 1 download so no "backup" options via the store?

My vote is for the less-expensive iPod touch that hopefully should come out soon (?). I don't need the phone, but surely the touch will become cheaper. Right?

I'm with you, pal. iPod touch has most of the features, with none of the $70-per-month fees.
I can stick with an iPod touch and my Virgin Mobile phone.
