Happy Birthday, iPhone
Yes, it is hard to believe, but our pal the iPhone will be 1 year old at 6 pm EST today. The iPhone has undergone many changes over the past year: from generating all the hype and buzz to being the best way to do everything on-the-go. The original iPhone sold at 6 p.m. (in each time zone across the US) at Apple and AT&T corporate stores for a retail price of $599 for the 8GB model and $499 for the now-discontinued 4GB model. With Apple set to release the next generation iPhone on July 11th, we can only stop and look back at all the accomplishments Apple has achieved over the past year. The iPhone has definitely changed the way we look at smartphones.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I read this blog with my iphone. TUAW has created a "mobile version" of the web log which has such small letters that it is near to impossible to read TUAW on the iphone anymore. The option "View the full version of the TUAW" does not work either. That is not a good birthday present!!! TUAW action required!!!

Yeah, I'm also quite peeved about this too. Please fix ASAP.

couldn't agree more - a very bizarre move from an apple website!!!

And as an important corollary to keep in mind, which I just noticed when I was doing some filing today (yes my iPhone receipt sat in a pile of papers for a year shut up): if you bought yours on the first day, your warranty expired on Friday! WOO-HOO! Oh wait, that actually sucks.

so, the original went on sale at 6:00 PM, will the 3g iteration go on sale at the same time or when the store opens? I've waited a year for this one!

EDT actually, not EST :)
Sorry to be picky, but it's a huge pet peeve of mine. Why not just say ET all the time and be universally correct?

Wish we could be celebrating the same in Canada. Unfortunately Rogers (our carrier) didn't give us many reasons to celebrate.

TOTALLY OFF TOPIC: Sorry to hijack this thread, but my iPhone suddenly stopped showing the Full Version of TUAW. Instead, TUAW is now rendered as a WAP-like list of posts with a link to "view the full version of" TUAW that does not work! Since there is no forum that I can query for a solution I am am reaching out to others who might have experienced this problem. Sorry. Any help on how to resolve is appreciated.

My iPhone gave me a birthday present last night: the camera ceased to work. My mild resentment fuels no worries, though,... July 11 looms nigh...
