International iPhone pricing guide
On July 11, 2008, the iPhone 3G will be launching all over the world. As the release date draws near, we have been inundated with tips from readers about international 3G launch dates and prices. In an attempt to try to keep the information organized in one place, I (stupidly, perhaps) volunteered to create a table containing the data from every country that is releasing the iPhone 3G on July 11 (plus France, which is launching on July 17). I did my best to provide the most accurate information, although some carriers have yet to release official information.
If you see any errors, please let me know -- I can update the table and the results will correct themselves immediately on this page.
Update: Thank you for all the helpful feedback! I will be out of town for the 4th of July, but will try to get information updated/corrected later today. I am also considering putting together a different chart comparing the final price at the end of contract, to determine who gets the "best" and "worst" deals respectively on the iPhone 3G.

It's written "Vodafone", not "Vodaphone".

Just to say that Vodafone will be releasing iPhone in Portugal, along with the local "arm" of Orange.

It looks like The Netherlands actually has one of the most competitively priced plans.. 2048/384 kbit unlimited internet(!) and hotspots, with 150 minutes + 150 sms for just 30 euro.

The information for Canada (Rogers) is incorrect. The correct information can be found at http://tinyurl.com/rogersiPhone
Basically the data rate plans start at $60 CAD (400 MB) and go up to $115 CAD (2 GB) plus extra for caller ID and other basic features, plus 0.50 for 911 service and a $6.95 monthly network access fee. Also important to note that there are NO unlimited data plans for the iPhone in Canada.

"The information for Canada (Rogers) is incorrect."
Actually, it is correct. The cheapest data plan is $30. This gets you 300MB. The $60 plan is for both voice and data.

This is true, my mistake. However, "if a voice plan is not subscribed to, each voice call (on voice-enabled devices) will be billed at $1.00 per minute and a one-time activation fee applies." (see previous comment link). This would make voice calls from your iPhone extremely expensive and bring your bill up to the $60 per month anyways. Needless to say, Canada's telecommunications industry really sucks.
As a side note for all Canadians, please see http://www.davidmcguinty.com/english/Home.html
Mr. McGuinty (Liberal Member of Parliament) is pushing a new bill to get ride of system access fees and the locking of cell phones to specific carriers, Bill C-555.

@ Mark:
So, who's going to pay 30$/month for an only DATA plan iPhone?
Realistically, Rogers' cheapest iPhone plan is 60$ + all the "poutine"!!!

"who's going to pay 30$/month for an only DATA plan iPhone?"
The column in the chart is for the data plan price, not voice + data.
Tim Hohm said 6:35PM on 7-03-2008
So if you get the $299 iPhone in the US it will be $45 for the data plan?

iPhone is not going to be released all over the world on July 11. Just 22 countries.
The rest of the world "later"

The prices you have listed for Japan are the subsidized prices of the 8GB and 16GB models spread out over the two year contract period.

1st. It's Vodafone, not Vodaphone
2nd. In Portugal there is no Orange. I don't know if they have a participation on Optimus but that's the name of the carrier.
3rd. Vodafone will also sell it here in Portugal, together with Optimus.
Both have yet to release prices.

The "My Sonera" offering in Finland from TeliaSonera is not "pay-as-you-go" but an option to have iPhone 3G with anything that they offer standard subscriptions. With the My Sonera you tick how many minutes you want to have included (if any), how many text messages (if any), and if you want to have one of their data offerings -- that include flat rate.
"My Sonera" is really the only smartest choice with the iPhone 3G offerings in Finland. The only drawback is the fact that one is actually paying the real price for the handset itself, not a subvented one -- and still gets a 24 month contract.

I just read on CBC.ca that Rogers will shortly be releasing a Samsung iPhone clone with rates about half what they're charging for the iPhone. Perhaps Samsung's kickback is better and Rogers really doesn't want us to buy the iPhone?
niclet said 9:50PM on 7-03-2008
That will be under Tellus and we all hope it'll shakes Rogers' butt!

BTW, Russell Gordon, thank for the link.

Correction on Spain rumor. Movistar (Telefónica) will offer two data plans:
- 15€, unlimited data but reduced speeds (128K) after 1GB
- 24€, unlimited data but reduced speeds (128K) after 5GB
Both plans include free wifi at Telefónica access points throughout the country (no word on how wifi roaming will work) and can be combined with any voice plan of your choice.
