AT&T to limit iPhone 3G purchases at launch
A recent MacRumors post suggests that you might only be able to purchase one iPhone 3G per customer from AT&T. While we haven't heard official word from Apple, they might be limiting purchases to 2 iPhones per customer like they did last year.MacRumors also reports that AT&T stores have received their iPhone 3Gs for the displays and they are to be activated on Thursday, July 10th, and must have downloaded 3rd-party applications on the displays in time for the launch on July 11th at 8 a.m.
They also report that Apple held a meeting to discuss sales of the iPhone. Speculation says that Apple stores might be opening at 8 a.m. to mimic AT&T's launch. Leak information also speculates that you will be able to use Apple gift cards, credit cards and checks to purchase the iPhone 3G (for the original iPhone launch, credit cards were required to track purchases).
Update: Apple has confirmed an 8 a.m. launch of the iPhone 3G at all Apple Stores. For more information about the iPhone launch at Apple Stores, visit the Apple retail website.

I work for a company that manages and tracks gift cards, and I've been following the iphone gift card debacle on savvywallet.com. I called the store today, and they said, they are accepting the cards, if you have a credit card to run as well. I believe you can use a portion and put the rest on the credit card. They need to verify, that the person buying it is legit. Strict, but at least they are accepting them. gift card with no credit card, no bueno.

But, I guess from their point of view they have to try (AT&T has a real stake in making sure people don't resell the iphones for unlocking purposes).

July 07 2008 at 11:38 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI've called today to a local ATT store regarding the family plan with 2 new iphones and they told me both customers need to be there, they will sell only one per customer. My wife is working Friday morning so they told me to bring my 3 year old son and they will give me a 2nd phone. Ridiculous...
July 07 2008 at 10:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI spoke to ATT Customer Support yesterday about family plans.. they told me as long as all the family users are authorized on my account and know the last 4 digits of my social they can buy them on their own time.. so no need to be there all together.

Does anyone know if supply will meet demand? Any word on how long Apple has been manufacturing iPhone 3Gs? Have they had since May when the original iPhones ran out?

Check out the iReady Checklist. "You may purchase 1 iPhone per person in line."
I plan to hit an AT&T store on Thursday to complete the credit check, but it's kind of lame that my wife and I have to go to the store to get our iPhones. They'll probably rethink that plan after I let my kids run wild and trash the place.
Does anyone find the "must download applications from the app store" part of this interesting? What apps will they have to download? Can you say "one more thing"?
July 07 2008 at 7:51 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyTo me, saying "One per customer in line" might be misleading, as it's really one per person in line. So technically you can just bring anyone, a hobo, your mom, your brother, your cousin, or anyone, as long as they're with you in line to get an iPhone for each warm body, and not each paying customer.
July 07 2008 at 7:40 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyRemember that you have to activate the iPhone to a number. So that really means "one iPhone per AT&T customer in line activating it to their mobile number"
