iPhone 3G unboxing pictures

My Portuguese isn't very good... alright fine I can't speak a word of Portuguese, but they say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so you should really check out these iPhone 3G unboxing pictures that were posted at iPhonePortugal. I have no idea how this lucky person got their hands on an iPhone 3G so early (they might work at a phone store, since the Swiss seem to have setup their displays), but they took some pictures and posted them on the internet, as the law requires.

Hi.
I'm portuguese and I don't know how the guy have already the iphone. Probably he works in Vodafone or Optimus. Or in Apple...
I'm waiting for a contact from Vodafone to confirm my order. And wait, wait...
These hours seems years....

Note the lack of the upright dock connector... not impressed.
As a happy 2G iPhone owner, I'm skipping this version. Check out the smudges too - the price of that 3G chip. The older nickel back is far more stylish, but would affect 3G signal loads.

No dock? Crap. Will the 1st gen iPhone dock work with the 3G, you think?

I'm with you. I'm sticking with my first-gen iPhone. If they'd bumped the storage and the camera quality I would have bitten, but the included upgrades just aren't compelling -- especially when the rate hike is factored in.

@thezonie
I would bet money that it wouldn't. Different shape.

Hmm. Isn't the iPhone 3G supposed to come with a new, tiny power adapter?: http://www.crunchgear.com/2008/06/09/hey-thanks-apple-iphone-3gs-power-adapter-is-tiny/

The power adapter pictured above is designed for Portuguese electrical outlets.
The US version will be the shown in the link.

That's the European adapter. You think electric plugs are the same all over the world? ;-)
Rick said 10:56PM on 7-08-2008
Thanks. I'm aware that different regions have different electrical standards. I was a little surprised that Apple didn't bother engineering a new adapter for all their markets. It couldn't be very hard, and they're usually good about consistency.

Wow, haven't really seen TUAW mention Portugal in a while... XD
Anyway, I'm also pure Portuguese, just like José (except I've been an English student all my life, so English has pretty much become my second language), and so far, in the thread that's linked on the article, the original poster refuses to say where or how he got it early. However, as mentioned before by José, he's probably got links in the industry, either through Vodafone or Apple itself. (I wouldn't say Optimus because the iPhone in the images says "VF P", and that's basically telling us he's connected to the Portuguese Vodafone network)
Might I add that the original poster also said he'll be receiving the 16-Gig version tomorrow.
To Scott McNulty (if you're reading the comments): You might want to add that the impressions that the guy got so far are that a) the HSDPA internet connection really lives up to expectations (in other words it's quite fast), and b) the App Store isn't up yet.
He's also mentioned the fact that he can't connect it to his PC yet, seeing as iTunes 7.7 isn't out.

@ thezonie:
Nope, as the back is curved. 1st gen dock is straight-backed. I've seen the new 3g dock, its moulded and sold separately.

Eww, freshly unboxed and the back of the device is covered in finger prints. That glossy black back stinks!
Glad I'm getting white.
