Rogers offers special iPhone data plan
It is no secret that our Canadian readers were a little upset with Rogers' initial iPhone service plans. Luckily, it looks like Rogers heard all the complaining as they are offering a special limited time offer for iPhone buyers. If you buy an iPhone and sign a three year contract with Rogers you can sign up for a special iPhone data plan that includes 6GB of data transfer for $30 a month, on top of whatever voice plan you sign up with. The offer ends on August 31st, but at least it is a start.Rogers' Chief Marketing Officer, John Boynton, told CBC news that Rogers listened to their customers' protests, and are experimenting with this new plan. Let's hope Rogers thinks it works out well and our friends to the North can get a good deal for iPhone data service past August 31st.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

God, I wish Vodafone New Zealand would do the same thing! Our prices are absolutely insane!

So this mean Sweden has worse data plan than Roger in Canada? Our dataplan is 5 GB for $ 32,5 US...

You can probably get yours for more than a month though, and didn't have to have a petition and media campaign to get it.

Another pointless post by TUAW...we know this already from engadget. Seems to me that you guys are doing a wonderful cut and paste job. Come on get you act together....your recent post on anything apple are either wrong or copied from engadget. Case in point Itune 7.7 available within hours...

Ditto. I love seeing double posts.

Some people don't read Engadget (I don't regularly). It's quite normal for various news organizations to report the same information, even within the same network.

Dear Rogers,
This doesn't cut it.

Dear Rogers,
This does cut it.
If you use more than 6GB per month on a mobile device, well, I honestly pity you.

It's a pretty good start except for the time limit. Verizon offer unlimited data for smartphones for $45USD but unlimited is somehow redefined to 5GB cap. They also charge $60 for a broadband card with the same cap...so this is inline.
$32.50 for 5GB isn't as good but it is too horrible. But yeah no matter how you slice it: It's sucks more than the previous $20/mo and even then it's expensive.

Great deal! Instead of paying 60$ for an iPhone plan I get to pay 30$ for voice + 30$ for data! Rogers thinks it's customers are a bunch of morons...

Uhm... but now you are getting 6gb of data instead of 400mb. So that is an undeniable improvement.
Not to say rogers are to trusted.
I just talked to rogers via one of their stores AND their toll free number and they could give me NO information about upgrading my phone or switching plans. Zip. Either they have been instructed to play dumb or rogers is withholding information from their own stores to keep people in the dark until zero hour. Very lame. Very shady.

The idea is not to get more, well, it is but what I mean is that people don't want to pay so much per month. I would probably be happy with 400 megs but I definitively want more then 150 minutes and I shouldn't have to pay an outrageous 15$ for caller id. And don't get me started on the fake fees for network access and 911...

And either way you still have to sign a three year contract that costs you $1200 to get out of.

Are you kidding? In NZ we're paying $250 (~$190US) for 1GB! I'd love to have to pay $32 for 5GB!
Camperton said 9:11PM on 7-09-2008
How did it go from 30 bucks and 6GB to 32 bucks and 5GB. It's 6 for 30.

Oops, I think I got sidetracked by comment no.1

Yeah even worse there are two other telecoms Telenor and 3 (Three) that gives you unlimited for the same money and better functioning networks that does'nt drop calls all the time or beep "unavaible" and brings down 2 million customers and emergency services because of "updates".

In a few months Rogers will charge a regular fee or even worse more.
Nice try Rogers, but some of us are smarter than that
