2.0 debuts, waiting on jailbreak

With Apple's release of iTunes 7.7 and the new 2.0 firmware for iPod touch and iPhone, everything seems to be running a day early. Over at hacker central, the iPhone dev team guys are still in wait mode.

For those of you looking for a glimpse of hackage to come, they've posted a number of screen shots, showing all kinds of nifty Apple-unapproved applications.

Just wanted to add my name to the list of those who've successfully installed this over a jailbroken unlocked 1.1.4 and now have a fully-functional iPhone 2, working on a non-iPhone O2 contract. Result!

I'm replacing my bookmark for TUAW with one for The Apple Blog. They seem to care a bit more about posting accurate information and aren't biased toward jailbreaking.

Why are you speaking of jailbreaking like it's a bad thing?

Give me free, open-source apps on my jailbroken phone over the "App Store" any day.

My goal: to have both options available.

There needs to be a clarification on all the "debut" stuff...

It Debuts when when anyone can plug in their iPod or iPhone and iTunes says "2.0 is the latest version"... it doesn't, so it's not out yet.

Also, THIS is completely misleading...

"With Apple's release of iTunes 7.7 and the new 2.0 firmware for iPod touch and iPhone"

the firmware linked to in the article is for iPhone ONLY.

You're honestly doubting that someone will jailbreak a 3G iPhone? I mean come on someone will do it, within a few days I suspect. maybe you should "zinkdifferent" and no doubt some incredibly talented people who are doing these things with only donations.

Is it just me, or does 2.0 seem a bit sluggish?

Erica Sadun is the worst thing that has ever happened to TUAW. She completely ruined this site, with useless posts and iPhone mania galore.

This madness must end.

Jailbreak is nice, for those that love their iPhones to crash, freeze, and break

Funny, because I have 3 pages full of these "crappy" apps, on a jailbroken iPod... and it hasn't crashed, frozen or broken since I jailbroke it back in Feb.

Some people would like to have their phone unlocked.

While there is a certain entertainment value to reading TUAW and spotting the assorted errors, it is unprofessional and irresponsible that the bloggers don't have the common sense to acknowledge their errors and add a correction. Rather they routinely leave up erroneous information to confuse and annoy readers. Erica, who presumably would like to retain some modicum of credibility in the Mac world, would do well to fact check before posting (iPhone 2 Debuts???).
