PinchMedia: Most iPhone apps less than five bucks
About 70 percent of the apps available today through the App Store are either free or less than $5, according to an analysis of 552 applications performed by PinchMedia.
Of the 552 total, they counted 135 free apps. Apps for sale ranged in price from 99 cents to $69.99. The most common price points were:
- 99 cents (85 apps)
- $9.99 (82 apps)
- $4.99 (62 apps)
They have a nice bar graph at their site, and plan to keep the data fresh as new apps are added to the App Store.

The $69.99 app is foreflight mobile - looks like quite a professional aviation app

Super Monkey Ball - I can see $9.99 because it is 3D and has innovative wii-like controls and many engaging levels.
Bejeweled - $9.99? My reaction was I want this but I wouldn't pay more than $4.99 for it. Compared to the 3D games this seems like a lot for a game that has been free online for many years and is more of a time-waster.
And of course the free apps - some are great, some you get what you pay for. Some of them seem a bit rushed or buggy.
The iphone webapp does more than the iphone native app (news feed, galleries, etc). I'm hoping they continue to update the native app to add those features.

Er, I meant the facebook native app, it is missing some key features that the webapp has for me to give up using the webapp.

Anyone having issues accessing TUAW today? Twice in the last 12 hours my iPod Touch locked up and restarted itself...strangely, each time, my battery (half full or better at the time) was red and warning me I was at 10 percent or less. It's like it zapped my juice.

So I have a question - with 500+ apps available already on day one... how does one "promote" their app? I mean - as a sole developer, how are you to get noticed? I don't have any apps... just curious? Do you submit them to sites for review? Do you get all your friends to download them to bump the download number?

This is going to sound really anal, but as an aside, I'm getting annoyed with all the usage of the term "apps". In shortform its fine and something I'm not worried about, but it's becoming the regular term for "software application" or "software" or even "application" everywhere. Apple's the most guilty, but everyone's catching on, and well, its annoying :)
Sorry y'all (ducking the bullets).
