The App Store is up...kind of

Early this morning, Apple officially released iTunes 7.7. After launching the application for the first time, I saw the little "Applications" icon in the sidebar. I clicked it as quickly as my little mouse would move, only to find a list of the iPod applications I had previously bought and nothing more. Looks like it's not up.

Not so fast.

The folks at MacRumors noticed that is up, just hidden. All you've got to do is search for the name of an application and you'll be brought right to it. Super Monkey Ball, for instance [App Store Link]. They can't be transferred to an iPhone or iPod touch as of this writing, but expect that to change soon.

Have fun poking around, and stay tuned to TUAW for more in-depth coverage.

Got 7.7 running.
G0t 2.0 running.

Got AIM, Google, Ebay, Twitterific, Remote and Facebook downloaded.

All work great... except Facebook won't launch. Error.

Bought Monkey Ball. Very fun - hard though once you get to level 6/7. Total noob, and the accelorometer will take some time to master.

Bought Enigmo. Downloading now...

@Sloane Because you are using the EDGE network to stream Radio content your iPhone cannot accept calls. Try using WIFI or 3G (which both allow for simultaneous internet use) with the App and you will receive calls.

There don't appear to be trial versions available. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to do so. On the beta 2.0 (legit, btw, none of this usenet/torrent malarkey!) app store when you select an app there's either a "Free" or "$x.xx" button. Tap that once and it changes to "Install". If it's free, the download commences, otherwise you're prompted for your iTunes password before the download starts.

It seems feasible that there could be a "Trial" button which would then download the full app. If you like the app enough to buy it, upgrade to the full version using the "Updates" menu or from the app's page itself.

I just installed CritterCrunch over EDGE. My phone went to sleep, but the game continued to download. I imagine that if you're on a call then the download would pause temporarily.

AOL Radio is very impressive. Streaming over EDGE is quick. Rather disturbingly, if you are listening to a station and someone calls, you won't see notification of the incoming call and they'll be directed to your voicemail after a few rings. I can't believe that wasn't caught during testing!

Anyone confirm that you can take applications off a jailbroken iPod touch (or iPhone) and add them to your "Applications" then put them on another device with firmware 2.0?

I doubt it, Apple said in the past you need a developer Key to sign the app, and they tightly control that.

Apparently some apps are only available in the US Store (http://marc-seeger.de/2008/7/10/the-appstore-is-onine)

e.g.
The AOL Radio App
the ebay app
the paypal app
the google mobile app
