The App Store is up...kind of
Early this morning, Apple officially released iTunes 7.7. After launching the application for the first time, I saw the little "Applications" icon in the sidebar. I clicked it as quickly as my little mouse would move, only to find a list of the iPod applications I had previously bought and nothing more. Looks like it's not up. Not so fast.
The folks at MacRumors noticed that is up, just hidden. All you've got to do is search for the name of an application and you'll be brought right to it. Super Monkey Ball, for instance [App Store Link]. They can't be transferred to an iPhone or iPod touch as of this writing, but expect that to change soon.
Have fun poking around, and stay tuned to TUAW for more in-depth coverage.

And if you download anything, and click Applications on the left Library, they will show up there.
ALSO, I downloaded my Jailbroken apps off the phone via SFTP and dragged and dropped them into that window, and they all show up in there in iTunes! We shall see if they will install tomorrow.

I think Apple won't want anyone to be able to have the firmware 2.0 until July 11 midnight (New Zealand time, earliest time-zone?).
They don't want to make the fanboys (yes, its a "proper" word now by M-W(.com)) be upset and cant go home to check out the new firmware while waiting in line.

How can you possibly be playing Super Monkey Ball without the firmware update?

1) Go to your itunes store home.
2) Right click on the music link and copy the address.
3) Paste into your browser.
4) Change id to 36 at end of url.
Works like a charm.

After purchasing an application, go to the new "Applications" link under the "Library" heading of iTunes. Then, click on the "Get More Applications" link in the bottom right-hand corner of the window to see the whole App Store. Enjoy!

Apps are also search-able! even without a direct link you can search for whatever apps you want. I've already downloaded at least 10 apps :-D Now...all i have to do is wait for 2.0 and pay my $10 for my touch. This is going to be the longest day at work ever...!

the biggest news is itunes store for russia! though, at the moment it contains only iphone/ipod touch applications. no music, no games, no videos, nothing apart from apps. but i guess the whole thing is there sooner or later.

Sorry if I am being a bit slow, but when is 2.0 released? I can get the apps but you cant transfer them until firmware 2.0 is running.
