The MobileMe rollercoaster
MobileMe has been up and down since late last night like so much rancid Chinese food. We know just about as much as you do: we're getting tips that it's up -- no, wait -- it's down. And now it's back up! And now it's down.
I was briefly able to log in and explore Contacts and iDisk, but was shut out when the site went back down. What I saw was pretty nifty, but without the larger context of app integration, I can't really form an educated opinion on it yet.
I am planning, however, on writing a full-scale review for this weekend. Hopefully the problems will clear up by then -- or at least long enough for me to write the story.
We'll keep you posted on the continuing ups and downs of MobileMe as we get more information. I'm hoping the act of writing this post will provide just enough schadenfreude to get the service running for good.
Thanks to everyone for the uninterrupted updates on this one!

Here is Switzerland it is still down. No email, no mobileme, nada and no update from Apple. Golden rule of customer service is to keep people updated even if it is bad news. Very annoying and very poor.

So I don't know what their change management process is like at apple, but I work in a data center and if a change doesn't go well within a specified amount of time, you back out. I realize that this date was set a while ago. However they really should have backed out of the change and given us back .mac in a the meantime.
Abort! Abort!
Do we even know if the push features are working? For people who have downloaded iphone software 2.0 does mobile me work?
July 10 2008 at 8:02 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt's too bad they couldn't have just left .Mac up while they rolled out MobileMe... that way we would at least have something to work with for the time being.
July 10 2008 at 7:57 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIf i were steve jobs i would tell all my MobileMe people that they aren't going home until this is fixed. This is so un-apple like is why i think we are all suprised. .Mac has been flaky but normally apple brings the goods for a product launch.
July 10 2008 at 7:56 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Reply...and down again. I'm trying to set up the most convoluted set of filters and forwarding between Gmail and MMe that I've ever attempted, and this whack-a-mole approach to uptime is getting frustrating.
July 10 2008 at 7:50 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWow, it was "working" for a few minutes, and not it's not working again. Bummer.
I say "working" because it was incredibly sluggish, as some people noted above. It also continually redirected me to iDisk when I logged in. I don't know if that's supposed to be the default post-login page, but it doesn't make much sense. I tried deleting cookies, switching browsers, and still, me.com would bring me directly to iDisk. Weird.
I have a hunch that not exploring me.com when it goes online might help the Apple employees. It definitely looks like they're having server issues, though I really wish they would tell us why. (And by why I mean really why, as technical as possible, unlike the customary ".Mac has encountered some issues" excuse.)
Let's just say that, if it's not up by tomorrow at 8am, I will laugh, hard. Not to be impatient at Apple, but just listen to this: "we can't sell the iPhone 3g until the release of the 2.0 software, and we can't release 2.0 until we get MobileMe working... so what on earth is wrong here?"
Yup, down again for me, too.
July 10 2008 at 7:51 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyit's working for me now...
Been able to access it from me.com for the past few minutes, but I still can't login fron my Mac. Says my name or pass may be invalid for some reason.
