Apple prepping iPhone 2.1 software
The folks at The Boy Genius Report spent some time poking around server logs and found references to iPhone OS 2.0.1. It seems that build 5B101 is the 2.0.1 software for first-generation iPhones, while 5B103 is for 3G iPhones. No word on what's included, of course, or when this might hit iTunes. According to AppleInsider, some people are having trouble with the camera and the accelerometer since the update. Have any of you 1st generation iPhone owners had software trouble since the update? Here's hoping this update will solve the problem.

You mean, 2.0.1 which I hope fixes some of the stability problems I've experienced with Safari crashing more often on both my old iPhone and my 3G. When it crashes hard when you are playing music, the music skip like a scratched CD and only a home button+top button reset will stop it.
A 2.1.0 update will have new features. I hope true push email support.

true push email? Not sure to understand what is the problem with the 2.0 push support

The push fix would have to be for OS X. True push works on the iPhone, it's OS X that waits 15 minutes to sync/"push"

I'm talking about IMAP IDLE. My host offers this and my Sony Ericsson phone had it so new emails are pushed to the phone. Mail.app offers this so I get emails without fetching on my Mac. Similar to what you get with MobileMe and Yahoo mail on iPhones today, but not limited just to those two services. It only does mail, not contacts and all the other stuff. It means you have a large list of places to host your email without relying on me.com or yahoo.com.
Whichever protocol, it would be very groovy is gmail could get pushed.
Pushing changes from the Mac desktop's calendar/contacts is a different issue entirely and an update to the MobileMe.app/OSX is necessary to fix that.

Gmail also works great with IMAP Idle and I sure hope that Apple implements this in the iPhone's Mail App. It would be nice not to have to use Apple's proprietary services to get e-mail pushed to me the way I could on my 5 year old Treo.

how about no bluetooth compatibility for anyone with a uConnect handsfree system in their car?
that would include jeep's, chrysler's, dodge's, and some bmw's, acura's.
1.1.4 worked! let's hope 2.1 works

I think there's a ".0" missing in that headline.

My keyboard lags a lot, usually in SMS.

I'm glad you mentioned this because it happens to me as well. I reloaded the firmware to see if it helped at all. (It didn't.)
But it is cool when you type out a few words while it's frozen and then all of a sudden all the letters come spewing out at full speed. Sounds cool. =)

The only problem I've had since I changed to v. 2.0 on my original 2G iPhone is that iCal now goes from Mon - Sun instead of Sun - Sat as it is on every other calendar on my desktop, laptop and mobileme. Can't figure out how to adjust this...

Try clearing your SMS history. I found a large SMS history will take a while to initially load.

I've had this problem before going to 2.0.

I predict by Tuesday next week it will be available on iTunes
i tried for the entire interview with PyTey of the Dev Team yesterday, to ask if they were waiting on firmware 2.0.1 to be available before releasing PWNED < but NOOOOO, all the obvious questions got asked - LOL
glad to see the news finally made it to the blog

I tracked it down to the sqlite engine on the device. All database access (contacts, locations, notes, SMS and so on) seems to lag. In some cases it's glacially slow. Apple, please fix this!
Ryan Trevisol said 1:09PM on 7-16-2008
Precisely, galactically slow is dead on. Bring on the 2.0.1!

@Potsy: I have the same contact lookup delay on my 2G...drives me crazy. Safari and apps crash regularly, and when I am in a low-connectivity environment, iPhone frequently reboots...these tradeoffs are killing my 2.0 experience

Yes - the Contacts application doesn't work. Scrolling not functioning; freezes. Does work the old way though; through the phone icon.
