iPhone 101: Jumping to the top of your mail
Mobile Safari has always had a handy feature that i wished Mobile Mail would acquire. Apple must have read my mind, because it's now available. If you're unlucky enough to receive lots of email, you can quickly jump to the top of the list by touching the menu bar (where the time is displayed) as of the iPhone 2.0 software. Ta-dah!
Remember, you can bulk delete mail with greater ease now, too. Both of these improvements are welcome, but it would be even better to be able to mark all messages as read (or unread) just as easily.

Wait, you can't mark all messages as read?
If you read the messages on your PC or in webmail, will the state automatically change to read?

If you are using IMAP it will. I think Exchange also does it and of course Mobile Me. But if you're using POP, it won't. One of the reasons i turned IMAP on in my gmail account.
You can check if you're using POP or something else under the Mail settings on the iPhone. Or in Mail.

you could do this in iPhone 1.0 as well, it also works on web pages on the phone.
My fav new feature in the 2.0 software is the ability to take a screen capture by holding the home button and tapping on the power/lock button.

I love that they added this "jump to top" feature on the Contacts app as well.
I find myself wishing there was something like this on a Mac and Safari instead of scrolling to the top.

Bonus tip: it works inside e-mails as well. So if you have a long e-mail and want to jump back to the top, just tap the menu bar.

just about everything in Tuaw's 101 series' are "known" features. That's not the point. The point is that some people don't know all the little tricks, and they might learn something handy. That's why it's called "101", because it's basic info for people who are still learning. It's not about you and me.
For what it's worth, I didn't know this one. I knew about it in Safari. So, mission accomplished. Someone learned something. Thanks, Tuaw!

It wasn't known to me. Of course, since this ("jumping to the top of your mail") is a new feature rolled out in the 2.0 firmware, it might not have been known to many others.

I really liked this feature in mobile Safari and am glad to have it in Mail as well.
Although, I noticed that it is a feature in nearly ALL apps on the iPhone.

SMS also does this now. These features were first revealed in the Guided Tour. More info here: http://versatile.vox.com/library/post/additional-iphone-20-features-revealed.html

Wow, I'm surprised so many people like the jump to top feature of safari. I absolutely hate it and thought maybe I'm not allow. Why do I hate it you ask. Well, say I'm browsing through a website and go oh, I'd like to search for more information. When I press the top, Safari goes to the top and I no longer can see what it was that I want to search for. Like the name of a person or some tech equipment. I've never liked it and wish I could turn it off. Now, that's not to say I will not like it in mail, but we will have to wait an see.

It would be great if, in this iPhone 101 series, you would address an issue I've come across- namely if you have more than one account, it's a real pain to look at each inbox. You have to basically go back, back, back, next account, inbox and repeat for each account.
I hope someone comes up with a handy fix for this.
