iPhone 101: Saving images in Safari
Have you ever been using Safari on your iPhone or iPod touch and wanted to save an image? Well, the 2.0 firmware makes this easy!Just tap and hold on any picture in Safari. When you do, a menu will pop up allowing you to save the image to your camera roll or follow the image link. Apple even places a subtle outline around the selected image (nice touch, Apple).
The great thing about this tip: it also works in Mail. Now you'll never be without your images. Now for that copy/paste (ahem, looking at you, Apple).
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Into Photos/Saved Photos... same place as screenshots.

I can confirm that it does go into the Camera Roll on the iPhone.
This is a great feature that I found by accident yesterday. It really comes in handy now when you get those "You Received a Multimedia Message" from AT&T that direct you to viewmymessage.com. (On a side note, this site never loads from EDGE, the server always stops responding. Does this happen to anyone else?)
Now after you view your picture message you can save it to your phone and pretend that Apple finally got their shit together and you received it like a normal MMS

Apple totally missed the boat on this tap-and-hold feature in Safari. They could've very very easily made it so tapping and holding on a link lets you choose "Open In New Tab."
Way to go, Apple.

@CaptSaltyJack,
I agree. I thought that's what they had *intended* for the update: saving the picture or opening a link in a new tab. Maybe some of our feedback will make a change happen in 2.0.1 or 2.0.2?

It drives me nuts that there's tabbed browsing but no "open in new tab" functionality. What's the point of that? I don't know how other people browse, but I command-click on links far more often than I click.

When I tried this on the Google logo on their page I only got a tiny pop-up that said "Action." I wasn't able to click it, though. What's that about?

You probably don't (didn't) have the new firmware yet. I hope you do now!

No, I did (do) have the most recent firmware, and just tried it again and still get the pop-up on the google page that says "Action." Did you try it on your phone?

Great feature! I just finished reading through a detailed review here: http://www.modmyifone.com/forums/news/234961-3g-iphone-review-full-detailed.html and learned a few things that i thought they had not put in this round but did...
My fav. so far is the "screen snapshot" feature! I use this All the time on my mac and now can finally do the same on my phone..: )
