Are you affected by MobileMe mail outage?
What's up with MobileMe email? In recent days we've been hearing from a lot of very unhappy MobileMe subscribers. They're unhappy because their email accounts have been inaccessible.David told us: "Some MobileMe mail users have been without mail access for four days straight now."
At the time of writing, the MobileMe status report says: "1% of MobileMe members cannot access MobileMe Mail. We apologize for any inconvenience."
But TUAW reader Drew told us: "Just got off the phone with AppleCare and they tell me MobileMe email is going to be down for 2-3 days, and that it's the whole system, not just the 1% as noted on the support site. Those of us that use .me as a work address are hosed. Normally I wouldn't care but I have 2 photoshoots to coordinate Sunday. Is it me, or does this feel like a M$ launch?"
Well, readers, you tell us. How has MobileMe mail been for you over the weekend?
Thanks to everyone who contacted us about this issue.

I can't really complain, and my iPhone gets the email via push. I feel bad for everyone because I know how bad this would hurt me because I have my other email address forwarded to my Mobile Me account.....in saying this I hope i didn't jinx myself. Haha well anyways my services have gone down occasionally but other than that its been pretty good.

Yup, been without .me mail since friday morning. Just checked this morning, and still no luck. Have to use spam email just to get this comment up. No fun.

Same here. No luck. This doesn't look too good for anyone involved.

But maybe I've missed some outage, since I've been on holidays until friday. But I haven't had any problems this weekend

It's been working fine for me too.
I had a .Mac account (about 1 year old) that converted to MobileMe.
I'm wondering if the people affected by the outage are primarily new subscribers that never had a .Mac account? Maybe people could also chime in on whether they are old .Mac subscribers or MobileMe subscribers when they mention personal outage experience.

I'm a long time .mac customer that's been without e-mail since Thursday afternoon - this is now Monday night.
I didn't ask for Mobile Me - I didn't want Mobile Me. It was forced on me and now I have no e-mail... me and a suspiciously small 1%.
Shame on you Apple.

Mine's been really slow and sporadic, but not completely down as far as I've noticed.
All told, though... MobileMe? MobileFail is more like it. mobilefailismorelikeit.com

I've been without email since Thursday and was told by an excited Apple Store 'helper' on Regent Street, Central London this morning that he hadn't come across a 1%-er before me as though I was some sort of rare insect he'd found crawling round the Apple toilet bowl. With that he hurriedly swatted me away when he realised that there was nothing he could do to lighten my mood about the failure of MobileMe to provide me with a basic email service. "I have no idea," he said looking over my shoulder at a younger and prettier ladybird.
I was hoping that this migration over to MobileMe from .Mac would be the answer to my prayers as a start-up company that relies on making sure details changed on the road are there waiting for me when I return home to base at night.
Temporarily, I've jumped onto an old mail.com email account that of course works perfectly. It make me wonder why I bothered to get excited in the first place.
This is not a rare story of course. Having read this article and numerous postings from the US, it's clear that Apple's PR machinery has ground to a halt too. By giving us no information in relation to the status of the problem for 4 days, it reeks of the corporation's amateurish approach to after-sales support.
"You can only get responses online," mumbled another worker bee on the shop floor. MobileMe has created another slippery high wall for customers to clamber up when wishing for a human voice to tell you that, 'yes, it's not working, but we know why and we're fixing it.'
I avoided rushing to O2 to upgrade to an iPhone last week and struggled to cover up a shit-eating grin of smugness when I read in the national papers of all the hiccups for those who queued in the all night rain and wind to hold aloft the thinner, faster handset like a Tolkien ring. I guess the Jobs Curse has finally reached me, poisoning my inbox and leaving me alone and void of hope that my business can work without the help of Microsoft. Am I wrong Steve?

I just switched my Adelphia email over to MacMail because I was getting a lot of spam in my email, and at first I had no problems with MacMail. But the last few days I have had trouble getting mail out of my inbox.

This is what tech support said to me. Hopeless and Helpless
You are chatting with Mike L., a MobileMe Support Representative
Hi, my name is Mike L.. Welcome to Apple!
Mike L.: Hello, how may I assist you?
Blaine Cotter: Is there any time table of how long my email will be unavailable?
Mike L.: Unfortunately, we do not have any estimated time of when the issue will be resolved
Blaine Cotter: Are emails that are being sent right now going to get to me when the issue is resolved or are they being bounced back to the sender?
Mike L.: I am currently unsure of that, I would think they are being bounced right now, however, I am not positive
Blaine Cotter: Do they estimate it to be fixed this week?
Mike L.: I am not sure, but I would think so
Mike L.: They have not relayed any information as to when it will be resolved to us
Blaine Cotter: Is apple going to refund my money that I have spent to have this service?
Mike L.: They are issuing 30 days free of service to those who are eligible
Blaine Cotter: This is bs.
Mike L.: I apologize for the inconvenience Blaine
No answers and no time-line. At what point in time do we all need to jump ship?

I've been completely underwhelmed, and aggressively annoyed with Mo' Bile me. Apple's liquid promises during their pre-launch campaign have congealed into a curdled mess.
Could this service see the light of redemption? I hope so before it's time for me to resubscribe.
Here is a list of my problems with MobileMe
1. Sluggish and unresponsive performance experienced on the most current versions of Safari and Firefox.
2. Lost email after composition.
3. Calendar entries not updating on my iPhone.
4. Too often freezes my computer. And I'm using everything from a G4 tower at work, a G4 powerbook, and G5 powerPC at home. I have noticed a slightly better performance on my G5 which is the only terminal currently using Leopard.
My question is, could there have been a more gentle introduction of MobileMe? Perhaps, A more graceful roll out than the ham-fisted way in which it was on-lined. I believe myself to be more patient than many who are more dependent on these services. It's been nearly a month and I'm still not impressed. In fact, I'm left longing for .Mac.
If Apple cannot remedy these problems I will be hard pressed to renew my account.

YES... I signed up for a trial account and have to say it really sucks. I still use gmail and get my emails through the 15 minute sync from gmail faster than the "push" email from MobileMe. They did add the 30 day extension so they get to suck for an additional 30 days before I have to pay for the suckiness.

Did they add 30 days to your trial account? Not mine, it's still shows it will expire in 60 days, which is what the original trial was for.

OMG, I feel so sorry for all the people who are testing out MobileMe for the first time now. They must be so p**** off by the performance issues. I'm quite glad I don't rely on MobileMe as my primary e-mail... I mostly use it for photo and website publishing and that works fine, at least for now!

KTJCM said 1:46PM on 7-21-2008
Yes, it now says 81 days left on a 60 day trial term.
