Flickr Find: Pinewood derby iPhone

The words pinewood derby may be meaningless to you, that is unless you were a boy scout. Then, no doubt, the pinewood derby will conjure up many happy memories (I lost miserably at my boy scout troop's pinewood derby, though I only worked on my car for 15 minutes). Now, imagine if a bunch of talented grownups got together and had a pinewood derby. You would get something like the event that the Columbus Society of Communicating Arts just held. Above you see one participant's pinewood derby car all decked out as an iPhone. I hope it is an iPhone 3G, since those are twice as fast (see what I did there?).
Check out the full Flickr set that Jaime Santillan posted, or see the iPhone car here, here and here. And I think you'll recognize some Apple products in this picture as well.

I made a pinewood derby car modeled after my family's bag phone way back in the day. It was a "car phone". This was probably 1993 or so, before cell phones but during the glory days of "car phones". It wasn't very fast, but it won first place for creative design!

I wonder if I have pictures of or the actual batcar that is a pinewood derby replica of batman's car from Tim Burton's Batman.

misspelled it.

The Wiimote would not be very aerodynamic...

Oh I remember the pine wood derby days. I had a batman theme of mine through the years, although the main ones I remember are the batmobile and the joker car.
I should dig those out.

The pinewood derby brings only sour memories to mind. When I was a kid, my car ("The Silver Bullet") made it to the final race, against the Scout Master's son. Everything was set, we went down the track, and the other kid's car veered off the hill and crashed. I won... or so I had thought. They called it a do-over. I blame the Scout-Master to this day.

We have an annual grand prix in the AWANA program at our church. This year my oldest daughter measured up my iPhone to make a racing replica complete with a polka doted dock. I posted some of the pictures on Flickr

Those trophies are certainly a creative use of retired Mac Mouses (mice?)
