Torque Game Engine comes to the iPhone

I am hardly a game programmer, but my understanding is that this sits on top of the OpenGL ES system in the iPhone -- you use the Torque engine to develop, and then the iPhone runs the games developed without any other special software. The benefits are that you can use the Torque Game Builder software (which is also available for many other platforms) to put together iPhone specific games, which makes it not only easier to develop native games, but to port games from those other platforms as well.
At any rate, this is good news for both iPhone game developers and players -- the easier it gets to create quality software on the platform, the more games we'll have to choose from.

We've mentioned the Torque gaming engine from GarageGames here a few times before -- it's a pretty powerful 3D engine that makes...

Looking at the screenshot, the engine looks good but I dont know if the price is affordable enough for individual game developer wannabe such as myself. 500 USD is too much and I dont think people like me is willing to shell out that kind of money

I'm waiting for someone to port Tribes to the iPhone now.

But yeah, Unity is rad. I wonder if the new asset streaming capabilities would be feasible for creating an MMO on the iPhone?
Marble Blast Ultra would be the greatest game on the iPhone. The torque shader engine makes games look amazing and with the 3D power of the iPhone, I am excited to see what comes out from Garage Games.

"Torque for the iPhone is licensed on a per title basis. For specific pricing and licensing information, please contact..."
It's the "per title" clause that bothers me. For $150 you can buy the standard indie package which permits you to develop and publish an unlimited number of games. Even if the "per title" licence fee is say $30, that only gives you 5 iPhone games. Sounds to me like Garage Games is cashing in on the optimistic popularity of their engine.
Minions of Mirth for iPhone? ;-) Yes please!

July 28 2008 at 5:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replytorque is a great platform for mac development, but any software with a one use, no stated price seems kinda fishy for an indy dev like my self. Also, is it just me, or does the description seem lacking?
