Apple to channel partners - stock up now

AppleInsider reported today that Apple is advising resellers to stock up on the better-selling iPods and MacBooks, as factory supplies are expected to slow to a trickle in August. There's speculation that this could be due to a release of new models.

For 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pros and the standard MacBooks, Apple was recommending that channel partners place orders that would give them a 3-week supply. For iPods, a 4-week supply was advised.

Apple usually notifies resellers via bulletins like this when they're getting ready to refresh a product line. This points to a product introduction for the new laptops and iPods (most likely the iPod touch and nano) in late August or September. While this is late for the school buying season, it could mark an early entry into the holiday buying season with an agressive launch of new products.

Geez, the macbook pro's aren't even a year old yet (from last update) so I hope they don't change them too much :) If they do, well then I guess I might have to sell my 10 month old macbook pro :)

But the MacBook Pro's design is much older than a year...WAY overdue for a complete refresh.

I actually think this is due to the closings of many Chinese manufacturing plants for the Olympics.

Bitter much?

Good call ! They are regularly closing factories, businesses, etc on certain days to try and improve air quality. As their first attend didn't work, I read that they are just shutting down factories leading up to the Olympics.

New products would be nice though ...

I was in the process of saving for a Macbook Pro. Guess I'll just save a bit longer now and see what Apple releases in a few months. :)

dude, you might be waiting forever if you keep waiting... i say, just go ahead and buy what you want now. there's always something better coming out all the time, it seems. i just got a macbook air and i'm deliriously happy with it. if they came out with a new one in a month or two, i wouldn't freak.

True, but seeing as it'll be a couple of months until I can afford the pro, waiting another few weeks won't really matter.
