MobileFamilyTree: Genealogy for iPhone

Want to carry your family tree with you?

Synium Software, the developer of a genealogy app called MacFamilyTree, has announced a mobile companion for their Mac product. MobileFamilyTree for iPhone and iPod touch requires MacFamilyTree 5.2.3 to run, and allows genealogists to review, edit, or add to family tree information anywhere at anytime. Once you're back at your Mac, MobileFamilyTree syncs your changes with MacFamilyTree.

This is great for adding genealogical information on the spot from interviews with relatives, doing additional research on the road, or just having a copy of your family history to review wherever you are. MobileFamilyTree is a free update to registered users of MacFamilyTree 5.2.3, or available for $4.99 from the App Store (click here to view the app in iTunes).

Bummer, just started dusting off the code for my old genealogy app for the Zaurus PDA and was getting ready to port it to the iPhone (http://jiceland.com/software/zfamtree.php - warning, incomplete site)

Just noticed their iPhone app requires their Mac software as well, might be room for some competition...

How does the MacFamilyTree software compare with Reunion?

I do like the idea of the mobile app, although it sounds like it needs some work

I was so very very close to buying this app for the mac but the lack of polish such as the comments explain made me back out, it seems they still haven't made it right, and now they rush to push out an iphone app that feels equally rushed (From what I have read of people who have actually paid the $5 for this app)

Just looking at their website - I think you might have meant that MacFamilyTree 5.2.3 is a free update for registered users of MacFamilyTree 5. Users still have to purchase MobileFamilyTree, which requires 5.2.3.

Thanks for mentioning this - it looks "cuil"!

If you use MacFamily Tree and an iPhone or iPod Touch, this is a must have app. Downloaded yesterday and synced up my 1500+ family tree records, works great. Only downside is lack of search, however this will be added as a free upgrade in version 1.1. I have to say Synium software are great for updates and quickly respond to users comments.
