iPhone 2.0.1 firmware out for iPhone and iPod touch

We're just kidding of course -- "Bug fixes" could mean anything. But the update is surprisingly large (242 mb) so as soon as we get it installed, we'll pick it apart.
It looks like the day of reckoning is here -- "bug fixes" is out, and may all the various Gods have mercy on our souls. The 2.0.1 software update for the iPhone and iPod touch is available in iTunes right now.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Ah... interesting, interesting. Did you hear what you just said?
What we propose to do is to turn something... into nothing... and back again.

****PLEASE READ****
Update crashed phone; had to us ziphone to have it places back to Recovery Mode!!
-Issue: while applications are being updated, connection is lost somehow leaving incomplete installs. (wifi issue??)
-Issue: only happens once you'll selected update to downloaded applications.
Problem: phone screen turns tented then nothing!
Problem: when you force shut down; phone remains with Apple logo on screen and nothing happens!!

Straight from the BB:
We are also testing an internal build of PwnageTool for iPhone OS 2.1b2 (for first generation iPhones and also 3G models). Unlock and jailbreak is working fine on the 1st Gen (we don’t think Apple is even trying anymore to prevent pwnage or unlocks for 1st Gen iPhones). For 3G, jailbreak certainly still works, and this will be released in good time.
Don't update if you have a Jailbroken or Unlocked iPhone

yeah i upgraded last night and it takes out all the jailbreak apps. interestingly, the legit apps i had hidden with poof are still gone... anyway, im sure the pwnage tool will work with the new firmware but i cant find it anywhere outside of itunes to run it thru

/crosses fingers and hopes things don't get worse.
I really hope they've fixed the interface lag and stability issues and can get to work on MMS and copy/paste.

Things are "less" buggy now. Contacts app loads fast, no delay. AND... it now supports Groups.

The groups feature has always been there.

Really? I thought that was one of the things people were bitching about not having in 2.0. Not something I really cared about so never paid any attention to it. Oh well...
Marcos said 9:19PM on 8-04-2008
Since 1.0 you could add people in a previously created group, but you couldn't create groups nor could you move people into groups. I was bitten by it more than once.
Can you do these things now?

I hope it fixes the problem I've been having with *syncing* contacts; for whatever reason, iTunes _will not_ sync my contacts. Every time I open the app on my iPod Touch, it says "No Contacts". However, and this is the weirdest part, if I back it up, most of my groups are there. It's so confusing!
William Slater said 10:57PM on 8-04-2008
HEY!
If your contacts won't sync properly in OSX, open your iSync application, go to preferences and reset your sync history, it worked for me!
Christopher Grant said 11:47PM on 8-04-2008
Brandon: Same thing happened to me, and iSync reset DID NOT work. Here's how I got it to work – export all Address Book entries as VCards, delete them all, close AB, delete all your prefs, log out and back in, reopen AB, import all your contacts/groups from those VCards, and then syncing should work.
The AB database is corrupt, so you need to make a new one and import the data into it. Just "backing up" and importing your AB database maintains the corrupt data, so it won't work. Took me a couple days and over an hour at the Genius Bar to figure this out. :-/

@Christopher: That was going to be my last resort, and it looks like I'll have to try it; I already did the iSync restore thing (probably 10-15 times), and even reinstalled iTunes. I'll try the Address Book thing – I hope it works! Thanks.
Brandon Martinez said 10:23AM on 8-05-2008
Yep, that worked; thanks! The only problem is that it doesn't keep the group information, but I had to sort that anyway.

Wow. I have to say.. this updated speeded everything up.
No mor hesitation in contacts or in the camera app.
I feel like this now is as fast as the originial 1.14 software or perhaps even faster. No more lag!
