Selling your iPhone
There are many iPhones and iPhone 3Gs being sold right now, and not just at Apple and AT&T Stores. If you're thinking about selling your old iPhone to get a little spendin' cash, here are some simple tips for you:Tip #1 - Pick a reasonable price. What's reasonable? Anything close to whatever other sellers are asking. A lot of 8GB iPhones are selling on eBay in the range of $325 - $450. Will you get that much? Who knows? That's the "joy" of online auctions.
Tip #2 - Show 'em the merchandise. People want to know what they're getting, so always take closeup pictures of everything that's included in the sale. eBay has special rules for iPhone sales:

The gist of the message? If you're selling an iPhone, put your User ID on all photos to prove you have the iPhone in your hot little hands. Sigh.
Tip #3 - Don't want to sell it on eBay? You can always try Craigslist, or you can get a guaranteed price buy selling it to a broker who will turn around and probably sell it on eBay. Some of these brokers include NextWorth (buying 8GB iPhones for $202) and Rapid Repair ($150). That's not as good a deal for you, but definitely a lot less hassle than eBay.
Have you sold your first-generation iPhone? Leave a comment telling us how you sold yours, and how much you made on the sale.

I sold my 8GB first gen to nftechservices.com. They paid $210 for it, I'd say it was in average condition. Got a check just a couple of days after they received the iphone from me- no hassles at all. I was going to send it to rapidrepair, but they were not offering as much.
September 19 2008 at 5:25 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyCan someone please tell me what the difference is between a locked and unlocked phone, how to do it and why it is better to get an unlocked one? Also, what does it mean when you jailbreak it?
August 12 2008 at 4:37 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyBTW, I sold my first-generation 8GB iPhone last week on eBay for $366 without unlocking or jailbreaking. Shipping, eBay fees ran about $30.

I wasn't planning on getting a 3g, but during a conversation with a group of people i said I would sell it for the right price. After that someone approached me and offered $375 for my 1st gen iPhone. At that point i couldn't pass up on getting a 3g without paying for it. Based on my experience I would just let the word out at work and in your network that you are open to selling and see what happens.

August 07 2008 at 1:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySold my first one for $465 + S&H, and in the midst of unloading the other (currently @ $420). Both were done on eBay. Both were unlocked and jailbroken. iLiberty+ is fa shiz muh niz! I recommend taking the extra steps for the extra flow. It's worth the half-hour. Now I am the proud owner of 2 3Gs - never to be jailbroken. They are surprisingly stable, despite the rocky start on 2.0. Peace.

August 07 2008 at 1:37 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI sold 3 Gen 1 iPhones that I bought from ATT when they had refurbs for $249. They sold anywhere from $385-$485 (on july 14!) on eBay.
August 07 2008 at 12:07 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI sold my iPhone 1G 8GB for $405 on eBay last week. It was over a year old and in pretty good shape, but still used. I've tracked a couple of eBay aucitions on similar iPhones, and many have gone for up to $500.
I unlocked it using Pwnage with iPhone OS 2.0, and I didn't have the original box it came in (which would have probably fetched me a little bit more $$$).
So I paid for my new iPhone3G, plus the first month of service. Pretty good for a year old phone.
