Found Footage: 'I Am Rich' walk through
Apparently, eight people actually bought the famed "I Am Rich" iPhone application. If you weren't rich stupid lucky enough to buy the app, or if you are merely curious what the fuss was all about -- the above "guided tour" is for you.
I'll admit, I've found this whole saga pretty unfunny thus far. Don't misunderstand me, I get the joke, the whole thing has just struck me as easy and lacking any real point.
Call me puerile, but I had to laugh at this video. The line that got me, "notice how 'deserve' is fashionably [misspelled]." Classic.
Thanks Neil!

Not funny!
It’s at times like these that I really miss an old fashion Newspaper...

So Neil - Any chance you and the 8 other would like to donate to a charity for kids with HIV? It will do way more than this app and make a profound difference...
check out safehavenproject.org
Thanks.....
Sorry for the shameless plug...

LAME!!!
I won't even be bothered with the "cracked" version for two reasons:
1) It's pointless
2) The narrator sounds like a complete, and utter douchebag!

Whats even worse than the " I am Rich " program? The publicity that you are giving it, who cares???

I think it brings up bigger issues with Apple's application process, which people do care about.

Idiotic.
Considering all the trouble that this guy caused I don't find it funny at all now although I chuckled when I first heard of the idea. What would make it really funny is if this guy actually ends up paying the refunds to the upset customers.
Like most practical jokes it's only really funny as an idea. When people start getting hurt, the funny part just doesn't seem so funny anymore. It truly would have been funnier (and probably more acceptable to all concerned) if somehow it *seemed* like you were being charged $1,000 bucks but somehow you weren't. Then everyone could have a good laugh.
The fact that this guy is actually taking people's money just makes it totally unfunny IMO.

I completely agree that the application had absolutely no place in the app store -- and frankly I think Apple should have refunded all the money made and given the douchebag nothing, I'm not arguing that the application was in any way right or correct. I just thought the walk-through was amusing.

LOL, hurt? U would have to be mentaly retarded to be hurt by buying this app. Nobody got hurt, the people who bought this were rich (or stupid) as hell. And the description for the app in the app store said exactly what it was, it wasn't a joke, because there wasn't really any way to fool anybody.
kleinias said 4:34PM on 8-09-2008
Yeah I guess I just don't really get why the app had "absolutely no place in the app store," or why anyone was "hurt" by it etc etc.
I was not interested in the application so I did not purchase it, if others wanted to buy it, how did that necessarily hurt them or anyone else? I understand (though this seems fairly uncommon) that someone could have accidentally purchased the application, but that could be said for any other app as well.

That person is not "taking" people's money - people (stupidly) are giving their money. There was no force. And lets remember - 8 people might have given up their money - millions did not.

The line "I am healthy" doesn't quite fit in with spending 1000 dollars on some worthless crap, according to me.

Now that apple has pulled it off the app store....doesn't that increase the value? All of us missed the opportunity and those who purchased indeed have a rare item!

Not particularly. If it were resellable the rarity might make it worth more, but how's he going to get anything for it?

You're kidding, right? Software doesn't increase in value in the way you mean...if it did, a lot more people would have hung on to their AOL CDs from the 90's. (Not to mention the fact you won't be able to get it onto anyone else's phone)
Dripps said 8:59PM on 8-11-2008
Yes, I'm kidding.

Guys, you're totally missing the point. This wasn't a practical joke. The guy made an application that had no real use except to parade around the fact that you can afford a $1000 app.
His description of the app was completely accurate, and the price was correctly shown. People who bought this app "accidentally" had to click the $1000 app, then click to CONFIRM that they wanted to purchase this $1000 APP!
If you're dumb enough to purchase an app because you think "It must be a joke, so I won't really get charged $1000" then you deserve to lose that money.
Frankly, I think the app was pretty brilliant. In America's current state of "I'll buy anything if it makes me look better than other people", this guy is just benefiting from that. If you ask me, they should put the app back up on the store.

I absolutely agree and have thought this way since the first time I heard about this app.
automag said 3:49PM on 8-09-2008
Agreed. The only douchebags are the ones selecting the app, reading it's description, and approving the purchase. There was no joke. The application's usefulness was described in detail and it's price was clearly marked. I hope those who bought it realize how dumb they have revealed themselves to be.

lol xD
I'm sure the guy in the video, though, is one of the many people trying to get a refund. Maybe he just saw an opportunity to poke fun at his financial accident.
