Ohio Apple Store robbed in early morning hours
Early yesterday morning, an Apple Store in Ohio was robbed. The Easton Town Center Apple Store's glass window (or door) was shattered and the robbers began snatching merchandise and placing it in their car's trunk. The robbers were reported to be driving a black Lexus. When police arrived on the scene, the robbers drove off, hitting the police car. If you are in the Columbus, Ohio area and have information for police, you are urged to call the Columbus Police Department at 614-645-4545. There is no word yet on when the Apple Store will re-open for business.

My question is what did they get off with?
A couple hundred iPhones?
Some iMacs?

Ohio must have some relaxed laws.
Here in VA, if you hit a police car in the commission of a crime/fleeing, its considered assault with a deadly weapon if the officer is in/near the car ... which means they can (and they will) use deadly force.

The officer opened fire and I assume they weren't just doing that to wake up the neighbours...
OTOH since they new the license plate I'm surprised it got very far, especially at night when it would likely be the only car on the road and easy to spot.

The story is all wrong! It was a 4dr. black infinity g35. Two males busted out the glass and entered the store. They attempted to enter a closet that they thought contained merchandise. Police/security arrived due to an alarm put out. both men ran out get in car empty handed. rammed a police car trying to escape. Shot was fired at the fleeing vehicle. Yes they got away. It won't be long before they are caught b/c the criminals left their tools behind that they intended to use to get inside the locked closet.

Technically that was a "burglary" or "breaking and entering" not a robbery. A robbery involves some kind of force or weapon or a threat of one and a victim must be in fear of injury or death.

I don't want the break-in to sound good or anything, but the iHeist thing... that's rich.

What you describe sounds like a burglary, not a robbery.

Chances are good that someone outside of Ohio might be more likely to have info, since the plates on the car were from Illinois.

That to me, is very surprising.. I have been to that Apple Store several times, but I never thought it would be robbed, the area just seems to be too "nice," if you know what I mean.
On another note, I never did think that just a plain glass front was a very good way of keeping our robbers. You would think that they would put one of those huge steel gate things, across the front of the store.

If you've ever been to the areas surrounding Easton, you'd know it isn't "too nice". Once the sun goes down, Easton turns into a teen hangout (thousands of them) of which aren't the nicest kids on the block.

O okay, I don't live close enough that I can go exploring around and find that out. I live about 1.5 hours away, and I have just have to make trips up there now and again to get things, so I wouldn't know what the surrounding areas would be like.
I was just saying that the areas that I have seen, seem too "nice."

I bought my iPhone there while on vacation July 11th and to be completely honest, they had "extra" security... and it was lax. 2 guards and random people still got in unattended. Their location allows for quite a bit of unnoticed loitering, and I am sure the shopping center has security, but to think they didn't notice the break in immediately is amazing. That place is a shopping mecca, more than 100 stores all outdoors you'd hope they have more than one patrol car for miles of storefront.
P.S. - Apple Store employees were great there, big shout out to Jeff for making sure I didn't port my iPhone the first night.

Um, did you just give a shout-out on a web blog story about a burglary?
Mmmmk.

The store is reopened, I was there last night. Not sure what they may have taken off with. Idiots.
Macboy, it is a nice area, but its not too far from a not nice area, just go see a movie at Easton on a weekend night, shady...

I just got my iPhone at Easton. Great store and great employees. People are right in saying that it is not in a great neighborhood. The outdoor mall that the store is a part of is extremely nice and upscale, but outside of that..... eh.... There are better places in Columbus for an Apple store to be located.

The store wasn't robbed, it was burglarized. There is a huge difference. You may want to reword your story and title. I started reading expected to hear about store employees held at gunpoint or customers being told to get on the floor. Instead I read that the window was smashed and some property taken. That is a burglary, not a robbery.
