Down with this sort of thing
Look Dougal, we've done it!Done what, Ted?
We're on iTunes, Dougal! In the UK store! Look at all the happy people waving at us! Wave back!
What people are you talking about, Ted?
The people out there with their Apple Macs.
It's not even raining, Ted.
Just shut up and wave, Dougal!
Are you imagining things again, Ted?
What do you mean, Dougal? When have I ever imagined things? I'm very rational, you know.
Well there was that time with that money...
It was just resting in my account, Dougal, I've told you before...
(Addendum, for the mystified: Father Ted was a hugely successful 1990s sitcom, broadcast by the UK's Channel 4, about three mad Catholic priests and their equally insane housekeeper, all living in peaceful chaos on a remote Irish island. If you've never heard of it before, just move on to the next TUAW post and pretend this one never happened. Any further questions will be answered by Father Jack: "That would be an ecumenical matter!")

I'll be buying this immediately. The money has been resting in my account anyway.

IT Crowd, The Office (UK) and some My Hero and well be set. These should also be on the
US store, great shows.
This was/is a great show. Buy the DVD box set don't wait for iTunes...
August 13 2008 at 6:18 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMan, I wish this were available on iTunes Canada. Basically, all we have so far is a lot of junk!

Or better yet, I suggest you watch the show.
"Can Apple insult the Irish anymore than they usually do ... Sorry Sabon but it may be shown on UK tv but its an Irish comedy with Irish cast."
Can you whine just a little bit louder, Jurisprudence? It's hard to hear you in the US.
I mean jeeze, Apple can only sell programs it has the rights to. They don't choose what the owners of television programs, movies or music do. They're at the content-owners mercy.
Father Ted was a BBC program, like it or not. Guess who owns the rights?
There's so much ridiculous whining on Apple sites nowadays, I'm just embarrassed to be known as an "Apple Guy." Sorry Apple hasn't cured cancer, invented teleportation and brokered world peace yet. I'm sure they're working on it. And right after that, they'll put Father Ted on the Irish iTunes store.
P.S. Black Books > Father Ted
"Buy TV Series" - go on, go on, go on, go on.
August 13 2008 at 3:50 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAnd its not on the iTunes Ireland store as we can't buy or rent shows/movies. Apple says its due to local rights holders...eh, wtf. Can Apple insult the Irish anymore than they usually do (check the prices of Apple gear here and you'll understand). Sorry Sabon but it may be shown on UK tv but its an Irish comedy with Irish cast. The only thing the British channels got right was airing it. At least they paid for it and didn't steal it. At least if Apple don't offer it on the Irish site they can't be accused of selling an Irish comedy back to the Irish at a higher price than to the British. Dermot Moran was a legend, RIP.
If they release the American verision of this and offer that to us on the ITMS instead they better leave their HQ in Cork or they will be calling the fire brigade on another factory. It'll all turn a bit Office Space.
Eh? Looks to me that Irish Apple store prices are the same as elsewhere in Europe (2199 Euros for the mid range MacBook Pro, for example - same as in Germany, France and Italy - which is 1817 Euros in Ireland when minus the 21% VAT).
By the way, the only Irish thing about Father Ted was the cast and writers. It was funded by Channel 4 and mostly shot in London.
Now, if only the iTS in the *US* would get this, and many other fine britcoms besides (Black Books! Red Dwarf! Spaced! AbFab! Classics like BlackAdder, Flying Circus, and Fawlty Towers!) I would be a happy camper. Oh yeah: DRINK! FECK! ARSE! GIRLS! NUNS...REVERSE! ;-)

August 13 2008 at 3:16 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAgreed, Black Books is possibly the best comedy series of recent years.
August 13 2008 at 6:21 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm surprised so many Americans know about this show. And it's more of an Irish show than a UK show.
