Down with this sort of thing
Look Dougal, we've done it!Done what, Ted?
We're on iTunes, Dougal! In the UK store! Look at all the happy people waving at us! Wave back!
What people are you talking about, Ted?
The people out there with their Apple Macs.
It's not even raining, Ted.
Just shut up and wave, Dougal!
Are you imagining things again, Ted?
What do you mean, Dougal? When have I ever imagined things? I'm very rational, you know.
Well there was that time with that money...
It was just resting in my account, Dougal, I've told you before...
(Addendum, for the mystified: Father Ted was a hugely successful 1990s sitcom, broadcast by the UK's Channel 4, about three mad Catholic priests and their equally insane housekeeper, all living in peaceful chaos on a remote Irish island. If you've never heard of it before, just move on to the next TUAW post and pretend this one never happened. Any further questions will be answered by Father Jack: "That would be an ecumenical matter!")

Father Jack would far more likely just shout, FECK OFF! And throw his brick at you!

Father Ted was a great show. Too bad the person that played Father Ted died.
I've lived near Seattle, WA USA all my life. There are some good American sitcoms but the best ones are on British TV. I know there is a lot of **** ones there too. But when they get one right ... it is really good.

I spent a lot of time in Seattle and Florida a few years back and could never get over the number of times at a checkout line (when they realised I was english) I got asked about English TV shows!!! Some that were mentioned cough Eastenders cough were awful but some made me grin and agree!
But heck you gave us Family Guy and the Simpsons and I bow down before you for those two reasons.

Annoyingly, the British TV shows that most foreigners seem to know about are "Benny Hill", "Mr. Bean" and "Monty Python". The first 2 I've always hated and I never really "got" the appeal of Monty Python. Given the relative prevalence of good sit-coms I've always found it a shame that none of the good ones make it outside of the UK. If you can, find the first 3 series of "Coupling" and make a beeline for the episode "Lesbian Spank Inferno", which won comedy awards. If you don't die laughing then there's either something wrong with you or you're too young.

"That would be an ecumenical matter"? I thought the standard Father Jack answer was a little more... crass, shall we say. (I'd include his bastardized version of swearing, but I am not sure if that would be kosher here or not.)

It was from an episode when bishops were coming to visit - Ted didn't want Jack shouting DRINK and GIRLS the whole time, so he trained him to use some other phrases.
"That would be an ecumenical matter" and "Yes" were the only two he managed =)

"Careful now" is a classic. So is the sheep episode with the guy in the backround saying the F word. But Kicking Bishop Brennen, Untouchable..

RIP Dermot Morgan.
Great show, loved by many here in Ireland.

I'm surprised so many Americans know about this show. And it's more of an Irish show than a UK show.

I love this show. It's not quite as good as "Black Books", but it's still a great show.

Agreed, Black Books is possibly the best comedy series of recent years.

Now, if only the iTS in the *US* would get this, and many other fine britcoms besides (Black Books! Red Dwarf! Spaced! AbFab! Classics like BlackAdder, Flying Circus, and Fawlty Towers!) I would be a happy camper. Oh yeah: DRINK! FECK! ARSE! GIRLS! NUNS...REVERSE! ;-)

And its not on the iTunes Ireland store as we can't buy or rent shows/movies. Apple says its due to local rights holders...eh, wtf. Can Apple insult the Irish anymore than they usually do (check the prices of Apple gear here and you'll understand). Sorry Sabon but it may be shown on UK tv but its an Irish comedy with Irish cast. The only thing the British channels got right was airing it. At least they paid for it and didn't steal it. At least if Apple don't offer it on the Irish site they can't be accused of selling an Irish comedy back to the Irish at a higher price than to the British. Dermot Moran was a legend, RIP.
If they release the American verision of this and offer that to us on the ITMS instead they better leave their HQ in Cork or they will be calling the fire brigade on another factory. It'll all turn a bit Office Space.
