Glowing Apple logo mod for your iPhone?
iPhones.ru posted a video (with dialogue in Russian, I think) showing a first-generation iPhone that's been modified to light up the Apple logo on the back of the device when it's turned on.
Sadly, it doesn't show how exactly the modification was made, though I conjecture it uses light from the main display somehow, perhaps with optical fiber. Maybe the presenter is discussing it, but I don't speak Russian, so it's hard to say.
It looks pretty cool. I'm old enough to remember when people were doing this to their PowerBooks, so who knows? This might just be a built-in feature of some future iPhone.

You know, it'd be nice if Apple would use that idea and use it as a flash for their camera in the next-gen iphones (that is if they upgrade the camera too)

No, she actually says nothing on how it's done. Looks more like an advertising, kind of "check it out, it's a cool light".

Try going to the iphone.ru site. They have a link to translate it into English. Perhaps the hack will be discussed in detail.

"I'm old enough to remember when people were doing this to their PowerBooks"
Great... so that puts you at, what, 3-5 years old? You're a big boy now!
Heh. Thanks for sharing this, it certainly seems like something I would do :P

No, the author is referring to the Powerbooks that had the white logo in the back but the logo was not backlit.
People would open up their displays and cut out some material so that the display light could get throguh thus lighting up the Apple logo.
I think these were the Wallstreet series in 1998. That would make him... 13-15 years old. At least.

That's about right ... intellectually, at least. Poop jokes are funny!

"Great... so that puts you at, what, 3-5 years old? You're a big boy now!"
It puts him at at least 9.
Back in the day, or actually sometime quite a while after the day, if you wanted a metal Powerbook, you had to scrape the rubberized coating off your Wallstreets.
And if you wanted your (then upside down) logo to light up, you had to drill out the backing behind the LCD.
And if you wanted to correct your Newton's auto-correction, you scribbled all over it.
It'd be nice if the iPhone had the 'scribble-it-out' feature, since it's the future and everything.
Sigh. I'm old.

I would not want it to be on all the time, or definitely not that bright. However it would make a nice flash/notification light. Thats one thing I would love to see on the phone is a flashing red Apple for a missing Text or something. Lol.
Now the possibility, in the Notebooks, the light is powered by the LCD panel, basically a no brainer, but theres a big ol' board behind the screen in the iPhone, so it has to be a separate light source.

or like the way the sleep light pulsates on a white intel-based imac - you only see it when you need it
