iPhone Firmware 2.0.2 is available
A new iPhone software update just hit iTunes. Version 2.0.2 is described as a bug fix release with little additional information. As usual, a version can be downloaded directly from Apple's servers or through iTunes. And, as always, this update will de-pwn your iPhone, should you have previously pwned it for command-line shell access and third-party Cydia applications.
If you've upgraded your iPhone or iPod touch, drop us a note in the comments and let us know what you've found that's new.

September 28 2008 at 6:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOn my first-gen phone, contacts became incredible slow with version 2.0.X. No wonder they advertised iPhone 3G as 'twice as fast' - tho it should have said 'half as slow'. But with 2.0.2 contacts is now usably quick - particularly aiming for the search magnifing glass which used to take 10 secs (terrible UI tho, no? search should be in a fixed position on the screen at all times).

However, playlists do not seem to update properly on the iPhone. Sometimes the playlists (based on playcount=0) update correctly and sometimes they do not. Looking forward to 2.1.

On both my iPod Touch and on an iPhone in the house I've noticed that the App Store app no longer has the option to install all updates at one time if there is more than one software update needed.
August 21 2008 at 9:32 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI pulled the trigger on installing 2.1 beta 4 and now I want to downgrade to 2.0.2. Erica posted before that you can put the iPhone into DFU mode to downgrade, but my 3G comes back with an error (1) message. Anyone know how to get back to 2.0.2?

August 19 2008 at 11:16 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWell, I updated our both mine and my wife's 1st gen phones last night (3 hours after the 5pm availability) and mine was flawless on the Mac but my wife's on the PC crashed hard. Error 13. Tried everything, read the forums everywhere with tons of homemade fixes that didn't do anything. So, I broke down and called Apple. 2 hours later, fixed (they are good, man). He had me build a new profile on the mac and restore the phone on my mac g5. Worked flawlessly. Then, he had sync it to my wife's PC. Worked flawlessly. Then synced her iphone as always. It's back and I find that 2.0.2 is snappier than ever. Everything is better including the EDGE. Grabs a 5 bar signal within in 5 seconds (in NYC and LI areas). My lesson learned is just call Apple versus struggling for hours.
August 19 2008 at 10:43 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Reply2.0.2 has enabled me to listen to voicemail through my plantronics 655 bluetooth, which was the case for 1.1.4 , but was lost when 2.0 and 2.0.1 came out. Everything is running great for me.
