Cyan porting Myst to iPhone

An employee of Cyan Worlds (proprietors of the legendary Myst series of games) has announced that they will be porting the original Myst to the iPhone. Apparently it's an "outside-funded" project -- though who might be funding it isn't yet clear -- and is apparently proving to be an "interesting and fun" project with a small team of just three people. No word yet on how it might work (or work differently) from the original, but the classic puzzle/exploration of Myst is good gaming no matter what platform you're playing it on.

Starting with the NES emulator, the iPhone was following the evolution of gaming pretty well -- at least until the App Store started mixing things up a bit. After Myst, I think we're right around Wolfenstein and Doom at this point -- those were available jailbroken, but it's about time we get an FPS officially as well. Carmack, you interested?

I'm confident that this will turn in a few bucks to cyan. Though it may not sound very promising to investors to return with a game that's outdated graphicwise, I think most of the "grown-ups" interested in gaming on an iPhone have been gaming myst when they where young.

Hey Lucas Arts, what about Monkey Island?!

Myst and riven, et. al. were all games that I wanted to play, but somehow never did. I have been significantly disappointed to find that even the anniversary editions do not run on a mac. I would be very interested in this on the iphone... and it would be a very intuitive control setup with the touch screen.

Do it!

i think a rail shooter is more likely than a FPS... at least if we're talking "decent to control"...

Myst was built in HyperCard. Guess they'll be porting HyperCard to the iPhone?

Awesome. I cannot wait for this.

I loved the original Myst. I'm not a big gamer, but I loved the rich environment, the mystic story line, and the puzzles.

I'll be the first in line to purchase this.

I would definitely pay the now-stypical "high-end game" App Store price of $9.99 for the original Myst game. It was a classic and very entertaining and would be perfect to kill large chunks of time on my iPhone. I really hope this project sees the light of day!
