Cyan porting Myst to iPhone

Starting with the NES emulator, the iPhone was following the evolution of gaming pretty well -- at least until the App Store started mixing things up a bit. After Myst, I think we're right around Wolfenstein and Doom at this point -- those were available jailbroken, but it's about time we get an FPS officially as well. Carmack, you interested?

It would be great to see the entire Myst games on the iPhone eventually. Possibly some of my all time favorites. The original game should work very well with the iPhone, as it was pretty limited in movement (series of renders), so it will be out soon (hopefully).

I got a copy of the original Quake from Installer, I think, after I jailbroke my 2.0.1 iPhone a couple of weeks ago.

Screw Id, I want to see Pathways into Darkness and the Marathon trilogy! Hmm, I wonder how much work would be required to get Aleph One to run on the iPhone....

Can't wait.
Myst created a shift in the expectations of what a "computer" game could be.

This will be nice but, I would sure love it if they would port Riven to Mac OS X. I loved that game. It's been about 8 years since I've played it. It doesn't run on OS X.

man, I can't ditto this enough. I think, quite often, how great it would be to go back and play Riven for old times'sake.
Also, they basically sold Myst III: Exile right during the transitional period to OS X, so I've never actually played it on an OS 9-only box...and didn't get to play it as much as I would've liked, before I kicked Classic.

+1 for Riven
Myst would be very cool, but even years later it probably wouldn't take very long to run through it again. Riven, on the other hand, delicious.

I enjoy an FPS as much as the next person but I really don't see this sort of game working well on the iPhone. In much the same way as applications have had to be re-thought to work well on the device, so I don't see that desktop games designed for a keyboard/mouse control scheme will work on a device with very little in the way of controls. Different controls need different sorts of games, much like the Nintendo Wii demonstrates.
Myst, on the other hand, could work very nicely.

I would definitely pay the now-stypical "high-end game" App Store price of $9.99 for the original Myst game. It was a classic and very entertaining and would be perfect to kill large chunks of time on my iPhone. I really hope this project sees the light of day!

Awesome. I cannot wait for this.
I loved the original Myst. I'm not a big gamer, but I loved the rich environment, the mystic story line, and the puzzles.
I'll be the first in line to purchase this.

Myst was built in HyperCard. Guess they'll be porting HyperCard to the iPhone?

i think a rail shooter is more likely than a FPS... at least if we're talking "decent to control"...

Myst and riven, et. al. were all games that I wanted to play, but somehow never did. I have been significantly disappointed to find that even the anniversary editions do not run on a mac. I would be very interested in this on the iphone... and it would be a very intuitive control setup with the touch screen.
Do it!

I'm confident that this will turn in a few bucks to cyan. Though it may not sound very promising to investors to return with a game that's outdated graphicwise, I think most of the "grown-ups" interested in gaming on an iPhone have been gaming myst when they where young.
Hey Lucas Arts, what about Monkey Island?!
