At Bat updated to version 1.2
One of my favorite iPhone/iPod touch applications, Major League Baseball's At Bat [App Store link] has been updated to version 1.2 with great new features. For the unfamiliar, At Bat provides up-to-the-minute statistics on ongoing baseball games, including the count at the plate, pitching and batter statistics ... even video clips of a game that's in progress. It's a little treasure for baseball fans (like me) who can't always watch the day's game.
Version 1.2 adds cool "Gameday" features, including pitch-by-pitch updates (speed, call, even placement over the plate), full box scores (both teams), a player card for each member of the roster with oodles of information and a game summary that sorts the action into top plays and runs.
At $4.99US, At Bat is a must-have for all fans of Major League Baseball, and sits easily among my top three applications. Go, Sox!

This app was good when it was first released, and both updates have made it even better.
Now all they need to do is add Gameday Audio access for those with the subscription.

Couldn't agree more. A friend w/the Sprint unlimited plan can buy Gameday Audio as an application, it should be included in MLB.com At Bat (or as a separate app) for sure.
In any case, kudos to MLB for their many improvements. This also points out a serious flaw in the iTunes review system. The negative reviews for the early version of this app remain on the front page despite their inaccuracy. Perhaps Apple should adopt a system that wipes reviews when a new revision is released.

While At Bay is one of the best sports applications out there, $4.99 is high considering it covers only the 2008 season (2009 will require new purchase) and that 2008 season is nearly over.

Wow, I can't believe that comment.
In my opinion, this is probably THE most useful and polished applicatons so far in the App Store. Granted, it is for a niche market, but if you're a baseball fan, this is money WELL spent.
Regardless of the Free applications that are in the Store right now (and when it first came online), this was the very first one I downloaded, even though I had to pay for it. And I was more than happy to do it. I thought it was worth it at $4.99 for v1.0.
One thing I am glad to see is that they continue to improve it, with it already being up to v1.2. I would still like to see a Standings screen, though.

TheIcemanCometh, I didn't say it *WASN'T* worth $4.99. Since the season is nearly over and you will have to purchase a new version for the 2009 season, latecomers should be entitled to some discount.

Of course you forget to mention that if you purchase this new as of right now, you would be paying $4.99 for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs. You would then have to purchase the App again for $4.99 for all of next season. Most people know this, but in case any one thinks they will buy it now and have it forever, just a heads up!

This is such a huge update, it should've been version 2.0.

I would love an app like this for the NFL. Or so i could track my Fantasy Football team.

I just noticed a free app Sportacular that seems to be very good and gives most sports scores/info and not just baseball..
I don't have At Bat since I'm not that huge of a baseball fan, so I'm not sure how it completely compares.
Someone point out any big differences?

Definitely not a fan of the subscription model. I think apple should have a clause against it in the developers agreement to protect its customers.
It barely mentions that it dies more than halfway through the description of the app and could easily be missed by most buyers.
That said, it looks to be a very useful and well developed app.

I don't have an iphone and sorta wish there was a dashboard widget store if paying is the only way to get something as polished as this seems to be. The current baseball widgets are alright but this seems more complete.

The original app was not worth the money. Aside from the sleek look, it did not provide even as much info as the mlb wap site. With that said, 1.2 makes it all worthwile. As much as I hate to keep paying year after year, at least it is finally worth it.

Now THAT is a killer upgrade. I spent way too much time keeping up with Cubs-Astros last night, and it was so good to have Gameday right there, keeping track of the action. Now, in Version 1.3, can I swipe something to end the Cubs' skids?

This app is mediocre with standings. How hard is it to add standings to this already? Especially with the play offs approaching.

Aaron, I got a little free MLB Standings application put together over the weekend for that exact reason. I'm uploading today to the AppStore.
I actually wish I had thought of this earlier, but it should be available soon. Just search for Standings.
