Super Monkey Ball updated to 1.01
SEGA has released an update to the popular Super Monkey Ball, which appears to address issues with control sensitivity. The update was expected to drop last month. No release notes were available online.
In cursory testing (by yours truly), it does appear the update improves player control. As promised, the "dead zone" where the ball stops moving altogether is larger, and movement overall has become less erratic. I noticed that when trying to slow down, the monkey ball is less likely to turn around, which makes it easier to navigate tight corners and control speed.
Also included is a new tutorial designed to help you get accustomed to the controls. Additionally, you can resume where you left off if you press the home button during a game.
Super Monkey Ball [App Store link] is a free update for existing users, and $9.99 for new users.
Thanks, Adiz!

don't update! after update, you have to start the game from the beginning. i was at the last world, hard, and now i have to start over? wtf?
September 03 2008 at 8:55 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyJeez, i mean, how can i possibly play this game? the animation is still lagging, there is no way to recover from an over-steer without falling out, and the sensitivity is still so high that i can't manage to make it past the 11-20 levels of world 1. maybe it's just me, but i'm pretty damn good at everything else i play...

I haven't gotten a single app update notification after 2.0.2 while iTunes works normally. Pretty sure its broken in the iPhone.
September 02 2008 at 4:03 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replywell, the update is for sissies. I got through the whole game, without need for sleezy updates. Sissies.
I second that.
I had to beat the entire game TWICE, because my save file was lost when I pwned it.
Oh nice, having to start over any time I hit home or got a call really killed this one for me. Great update.
September 02 2008 at 3:21 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI had this six years ago http://media.gameboy.ign.com/media/480/480095/vids_1.html and it had great controls. This iPhone one looks almost as nice graphically. Does this version have the mini games (golf, bowling, etc) it had? Is the main game long (60+ challenges)?

"What's new in this version"
- Interactive tutorial
- Instructions added
- Game is suspended when the player presses the "Home" button
