Another instant messenger app for iPhone has been released, joining the ranks of such stalwarts as Pairingo, MobileChat, and AIM for iPhone. Shape IM+ All-in-One Mobile Messenger for iPhone (click opens iTunes App Store) supports AIM/iChat, MSN/Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo!, ICQ, Jabber, Google Talk and MySpaceIM. All public IM systems can be connected through the one client, and all messages come into one shared inbox.Shape Services GMBH is currently offering the iPhone application for free, while the Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Symbian, and BlackBerry versions retail for $29.99. Get it while it's free!

Does this use the names from my Contacts application? I hate seeing AIM buddy list names in the IM client b/c I don't remember what person it is connected to. It'd be nice to see real names a la iChat, but I don't want to have to re enter them all when I already have them stored in Address Book.

Anyone else have trouble using this with yahoo? I can't get it to sign me in using my @sbcglobal.net email address. All the other messengers work just fine though. :-\

Installer community has a good messenger called 'Agile Messenger'. I use it with yahoo, google and AIM and it works pretty good

I've used Agile Messenger on WinMo for a little over 2 1/2 years, it's amazing. Your mileage may vary, but if it runs in the background like on WM, I might actually ditch this POS Mogul and get an iPhone. Agile Messenger is fast and powerful. Highly reccommended, even though it's very far from free.

Agile is out for 2.0? Not last I checked... but I wish. What a great program.

via installer.app only i'm afraid :(

Installer.app won't even stay open long enough for me to refresh my sources to see if Agile is actually out for 2.0.x yet. Installer's got a long way to go...
As far as Shape's product, no issues here for me with it. Works fine with Yahoo and AIM on my phone.
I prefered Agile, though. At least IM+ is free. I paid $3 for that MobileChat product, and it is buggy, server crashy, and the developer blog is still full of nothing but apologies and excuses...
Damn you Apple, just give me frickin' iChat, MMS, and cut and paste. Everything else is great for me, but those features are sorely missed.

So I installed Installer 4 manually (left it out the last time I jb'd) to grab Agile. I was so excited when you said it was out for Installer... but it isn't there. Are you thinking of when it was available for 1.1.4 or is there a secret source you want to share?

Most of the time, just one message sent to a MSN contact is enough to crash the app. Did they even test the app before releasing it?

I have installed this app awhile back. While it looks nice and seems capable, it just won't work. It takes few dozen tries (yes, dozens!) to connect to Yahoo! and when it does, I can only receive but not send messages to my contacts.

I've used this and found it to be 'ok' not great. I still prefer Mobilechat but it seems to have trouble connecting to MSN consistantly.
