Rogers revising iPhone plans?

MacNN reports that Rogers Wireless will be revising its iPhone plans on October 1 to include a new 250 minute plan for $60, among other changes.

The new bundles, MacNN says, would feature a $60 plan with:

  • 250 daytime minutes
  • 75 texts
  • 1GB data
  • Visual Voicemail
  • three months of unlimited local calling
  • a permanent MY5 Local option

A $75 plan may also be available, with 400 minutes, 100 texts, and 2GB data.

Early on, Rogers has had a rocky relationship with iPhone customers, many of whom are unhappy with the relatively high cost of plan rates and miniscule data allowances.

Canadian readers: Is this an improvement, or does Rogers still have a long way to go? Let us know by leaving a comment.

The pricing is *decent* imo. Not great, but not terrible either. My biggest issue is having to sign a 3 year contract with Rogers when GSM competition in Canada is imminent. I could probably stomach 2 years (like AT&T in the US) but at 3 years... I can't help but think that last year is going to really piss me off.

I thought I'd get an iPhone on day 1, but the voice rates were as atrocious as the data rates (I use my cell a lot .. don't even have a desk phone at work). I held off and while these rates certainly look to be an improvement, I am still holding off and the main reason is the 3 year contract issue.

Well, I was considering to buy an iPhone before I found out about the price of the plans. For the plan I wanted it was going to cost around $110 a month! I'm a High School student! How can I afford that? With this new plan I think I could manage $60-$75 a lot easier. Hopefully this happens and I might consider getting an iPhone.

These plans are much better. While I would like unlimited data, I most likely wouldn't us it. I pay roughly $45 a month right now for the equivalent of the $75 plan for my k850i but that doesn't have and data at all.

Wow..... it seems Rogers screws their customers worse than AT&T. I feel bad for iPhone owners in Canada.

Better...

not good enough. I'm a high school student who works only part time. I can't afford a $60 plan a month! The point, Rogers, is to get the price lower first.

I mean, no caller ID, activation fees? ect. ect. This is NOT good enough.

The bottom line is that if you're in Canada, unless you're going to use your cell as a primary phone, ANY plan is nowhere near the money.

Frankly, I've cut my home costs by dropping the major Telco's, going with Vonage on Rogers Internet(their internet prices are pretty decent) and I got a Virgin Mobile pay per use cell phone for my wife.

Screw Canadian Telco's indeed.

this is sure cool. i mean i'm in Germany and the T-Mobile contracts are damn expensive. for EUR 30 you can get 50 minutes, NO sms, 500 MB data and not to mention, there is no land line number or any other option like that... sad indeed.
and comparing the German prices, i guess the Canadians can rush to an Apple store right now!! :)

The $60 is better for sure, except the amount of text messages you (don't) get. The thing I really like about the current visual voicemail plan is the 2,500 texts. That's practically unlimited! I know I'll never use 6GB of data a month, so it would be nice if they did $15 3GB data package or something, but even still that's really expensive in my opinion.
