BestBuy starts selling iPhones, do you buy it?
If you are looking for an iPhone 3G to spend your money on (and who isn't), look no further than your local BestBuy. Last night, BestBuy stores around the country started selling their newly acquired stock of iPhone 3Gs. This deal between Apple and the big-box giant was most likely a strategy to relieve the long waits at AT&T/Apple Stores. We at TUAW do have a question: Does this change your iPhone buying habits? Will you buy an iPhone at BestBuy, or will you continue to buy at the Apple Store? We want to know, so take part in our poll and chat about in the comments.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

'Around the country'? In Morrissey's words, America is not the world. The USA is now THE country?
Please call this TUAWUSA or be a bit more global-minded. Your poll didn't even allow people to say "I'm not from the US, I've never been to Best Buy.

Considering the majority of BestBuys are in the US, what is the point of your comment? Why would you even vote at all? Not trying to be rude, but just want to understand.

I just think it's inconsiderate to treat the entire readership as if they live in the USA.
Corey says 'If you are looking for an iPhone 3G ... look no further than your local BestBuy'. Well my local Best Buy is thousands of miles away, so why not be a little more considerate and just say, 'US residents can now get an iPhone 3G from Best Buy'?

I'm not from the US either, but I think TUAW has done sufficient reporting on iPhone sales internationally. I've been to a couple Canadian Mac/iPhone sites and they rarely talk about Mac/iPhone sales in other countries (although admittedly they DO advertise their nationality prominently).
We have Best Buy in Canada, and though I'm not sure if BB Canada will sell iPhones, I wouldn't buy anything technical from them if I could help it. If I did, I'd go in already informed by web research, so I could buzz past their sales people, get what I want, and leave. I usually flip them the bird as I walk out, too.
I might buy an iPhone case from Best buy, assuming I could afford one after signing up with Rogers for their three-year shakedown.
I'm sort of hoping for the fabled iPhone Nano with PAYG possibilities, which I would run on, believe it or not, 7-Eleven's PAYG "SpeakOut" GSM network, if I could. They seem to have one of the least worst PAYG setups in the country.

OH NO! They posted about the US. Big deal. What about all those store openings in other countries? what about them posting about how all these countries are getting the iPhone 3G. Are you saying that they should not post any article that has any geographical exclusivity? I live in the US and the nearest Best Buy is 2 hours away. You don't see me getting all pissy about the fact that they posted an article that has no relevance to me. That is what the blue bar on the right of your window is for...

TUAW is based in the US - therefore the writers are going to localize it to the US. If it were based somewhere in Europe, I would expect the same. If you're so nit-picky that you have to start complaining about the localization, maybe it's time to find another blog to follow...

I don't mind that the blog entry is localized to the U.S., but those who are not in the U.S. and want to see the poll results, will have to answer falsely and that would skew the results. So, there should at least be an option for "Not in the U.S." or some way to view the results without voting

So do you still have to activate them instore?

Just by calling it a "device" (regardless of whether it is), best buy has done exactly what is best at... taking all the sex appeal out of a brand.

"The products suck! There's no sex in them anymore!"

Some of us don't live anywhere near an Apple Store.

And not only do we live where there isn't an Apple store, some of us live where Best Buy won't be selling iPhones either. Third-world countries can have iPhones, but not about a fifth of the US (albeit the most rural fifth of the US).

Kicking off the week with a QuotaPost? Damn!

We don't have quotas, but thanks for the conjecture.
Lessee, we get slammed if we post anything late, on time, about the US without acknowledging the world, or vice-versa, something found somewhere else, something completely original, something at all...
I'm noticing a pattern here!

Yeah, me too. That's why I keep Adblock enabled on TUAW.

My "iPhone buying habits"? Since when does making a single purchase constitute a habit? Or are there people out there who just can't stop buying iPhones?

I thought the exact same thing when I read that line... "habits"? Just how many iPhones are people buying? (12 million units sold, but only to 3.5 million people? ;-)
Brandon said 9:43AM on 9-08-2008
I'm with Adam ... how many iPhones are you expecting that we buy? I mean its not like its milk - we don't need to buy a new one every few days. And buying something once in the past year doesn't exactly make it a "habit".

I don't know why, but there's something satisfying about buying Apple products at Apple Stores versus offical retailers such as J&R or Best Buy...

"iPhone buying habits?!" Do people have "iPhone buying habits" other than buying one and using it? I didn't realize it was a habitual thing.
