Found Footage: Database app for iPhone -- HanDBase
Another longtime developer of apps for Palm and Windows Mobile has been heard from! DDH Software, developer of HanDBase, announced that its flagship database app will be available for iPhone in the 4th quarter of 2008. At this time, DDH hasn't provided pricing or an exact ship date, but it did provide the link to the YouTube video seen above.
To quote the DDH Software website, "HanDBase is a light and fast relational database manager for desktops, PDAs, and smartphones which offers data entry, searching, sorting, filtering, printing and synchronization across a wide variety of desktop computers, handheld computing devices and smartphones."
If the YouTube video is too grainy for you, try the QuickTime movie instead (click here).

As an FM Developer, I've been very impressed with FMTouch. The developers are incredibly responsive and have some great new features planned for the product.

This for me is a no-brainer to pick up on iPhone. Thanks for posting this, I'd forgotten how much use I got out of that little program.

Can't wait. Presumably, it'll work on iPod touch?--- our little company will be buying a bunch of them when this software is available...
September 12 2008 at 11:15 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOk so is this something like a small DB like mysql running on your iphone. Would the power of that be that other applications could use it as an information store.
If so... isn't that a background app? I'm confused I thought Iphone development wasn't allowed to make background apps.
It's actually just an sqlite interface. It's like a mini MS Access in your iPhone. You define the schema and a basic CRUD interface is provided. It is not meant to be used as a data store for other applications.
Apple is very conservative when it comes to background apps. They still haven't opened up that to developers. The reason is many things: battery life, usability, and basically they don't want third party apps doing all crazy stuff without the user knowing it.
Steven Sande, how can a developer contact you to discuss about iPhone apps?
