iPhone 101: Pause an app download
With the advent of firmware 2.1, Apple has added the ability to pause a App Store download currently in progress. When you purchase an app, a temporary download icon will appear on your home screen. While the application is still in the download process, tapping it will pause the download. Paused downloads will be denoted by the word "Paused" underneath the icon. To resume the download, just tap again. While Apple has added this feature to the iPhone OS, your mileage may vary as far as it working properly. In one instance, our iPhone had to be restarted completely before the download would resume properly.

I tried this feature and the paused download would not resume. I even switched the phone from 3G to WiFi and it simply wouldn't finish. I finally had to connect/synch it to iTunes on my Mac to get it to finish updating the app. So I advise using this pause feature with caution--don't interrupt a download unless you have a very good reason and can live without that app until the next time you synch.

Also -- it now keeps the place of the updated app. Meaning it doesn't add the updated app to the end of your apps list anymore.
No more re-dragging! YAY.

That is cool; I was hoping they would implement something like that. Now if it would juts put the updated app in the same spot as the old version I would be happy. Every time I update multiple apps, my nice organized home pages fowled up.

hmmm - that doesn't seem to be working for me. Still seems to drop them in first available spot.

I take that back, it worked for the apple remote update. I oculd have sworn it didn't for the NY Times app, but maybe I wasn't paying attention.
