Rumor: German retailer might have new MacBook Pro
German retailer T-Systems (a division of Deutsche Telekom/T-Mobile, already the iPhone's German carrier) has had images of what it claims is a MacBook Pro for sale, but this model includes a glossy screen with a black border, much like current iMac displays.
The notebooks feature 2.5GHz and 2.6GHz (update: the latter of which has been removed from the site, but we have a cached copy) Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard disk, and an nVidia GF 8600M GT video card. My German is very rusty, but it appears the 2.5GHz laptops are offered with both glossy and matte displays.
If true, it could mean more definite announcements from Apple soon about new laptops on the way.
Thanks, Felix!

If i read the equipment site correctly it also states that the Macbook pro has multi touch technology, could the screen be a touch screen?
Or maybe they are referring to the mouse pad?

It says indeed that there are glossy and matte displays available :)
And thats good I'm waiting for the new macbook pro's and don't want a glossy display if possible.

Does anyone here speak german? If so, give them a call, and ask if they have the new MBP models. That might be all it takes to find out if it is true or not.

A large picture from before T Systems shot it all down

Another failpost from TUAW, whose "editors" are too lazy to revise the false article.
The pic is a direct photoshop of the CURRENT MacBook Pro, with a black border and a crappy clone-tool revision of the front lip.

@ Dan S:
That may be, but official product shots are so over stylized in PShop these days, that it's becoming harder to discern between fake and "enhanced". You can't tell me that any of the laptop displays, in any promo shot were actually on and displaying whatever picture is showing in the promo when the photo was taken.

@Dan S: I've updated the post now that the product has been removed from T-Systems' site. As photoshopped as it may be, it still doesn't explain why it showed up on T-Systems' site to begin with.
And thanks for being so friendly about the edits ... especially with me having a head cold and having to sleep at *some* point and all. We appreciate your good attitude! :)

You mean MonteVina right? Montenegro is a country is SE Europe.
I'd hate to see ya walk into an apple store and ask about MBP's with montenegro.

All CPU versions seem to be available with or without "hochglanzdisplay".

interesting... no latch button, no IR sensor

Robert Palmer said 11:38AM on 9-17-2008
The IR sensor may be hidden in the black screen bezel, along with the iSight camera and microphone.
The latch may be magnetic, like the MacBooks.
Food for thought.

The IR sensor and iSight are behind the glass on the iMac, and I can't imagine they'd introduce a new model and give it an awful latch after their two newer notebook designs don't have one.
Kyle Derouen said 12:19PM on 9-17-2008
@Robert
I don't think they'd put the IR sensor behind the glass on the display (or I hope they wouldn't) because I frequently use my MBP in 'closed-lid mode' and enjoy using the remote to display front row on an external monitor.
btw, I love your posts :)
Robert Palmer said 12:38PM on 9-17-2008
@Kyle: Derp! How right you are. I do the same thing ... perhaps the IR receiver is in the top lid, then. It's hard to say at this point. It could be that slightly darker spot at the right edge of the optical drive slot, for all I know. :)

I think a case update without any component/spec changes is unlikely.
Even a photoshop without any component/spec change is unusual. ;-)

Assuming this is the real deal, here's what I think happened...
Somebody at T-Systems is tasked with adding new items to their store. To do this, I bet they often just take an existing similar item and duplicate it, then make the necessary changes.
I think they didn't finish updating it before they accidentally made it go live.

Hochglanzdisplay means glossy screen....
And did anyone have a look at the specs? They are exactly the same as the current MBP...same L2cache, same GPU, same RAM etc.

True, but that could just indicate that this was a slip-up. Somebody may have been adding new items to their catalog, and they just duplicated an old one to start, and they only got as far as updating the photo before they accidentally published it.
Also, it's clearly a 17" model in the pics, not 15", as the description indicates, so I don't really know how to interpret that.
