Yet Another Fake Tablet
It's sad how much I want this whole tablet rumor to be true. So it's always a delightful surprise to find the latest Photoshopped fake in our inbox. Above is "Max Vinegar"'s contribution to the cause. I love the way it's artistically blurred, with just the right ceiling reflections and how the new-fashioned nano gives it a frisson of verisimilitude.
Got a better fauxtotablet? Drop a link into the comments and I'll put up a gallery of 'em.

Not really. Would have been a lot better if they didn't include the Nano... that totally blew it for realism.
Greedy man, totally greedy.

Wow.!!! That looks awesome! I hope Apple has donesomething similar. I'll pre-order one... :)

The thing that all of these tablet fakes overlook is the UI. You can't just slap a touch-screen on Leopard, it's fundamentally not designed that way, it's built for a pixel-accurate mouse and keyboard.
Fail.

What's with this? Perhaps-- just perhaps-- a touchscreen on a tablet is only for a stylus. I've wondered for years (OK, since I first sat on a Quantel Paintbox in 1982) when [insert a viable tablet OEM] and Apple would get together. Rumor had it in '03 that they were working with like Wacom on "something."
SO-- *what motivates a faux-painter? Does it generate viral video or social hits? NAW; better a fake video, and that's much more sophisticated.

Oh my god it is a thing of beauty. Smaller than I would want, but my interest is in using such a thing for graphic design. My wallet would hate me for the terrible things I would do to it if that was a real product :)

Want...So...Very...Much! If I clap hard enough will it come true? No? How about if I wave money around in front of Infinite Loop?

I love how with all these fake tablets there is never any talk about how Apple have modified Mac OS X to accomodate right/control click and contextual menus and all the other differences between using a mouse/trackball and a finger(s). Changes to the system are of far more importance than just the tablet. If they've made those sort on changes then they can add most of it to the iPhone (copy/paste) and could do away with even the single button of laptops/mice.

I tap with two fingers on my MBP for a right click. Do they need much more than that for a tablet?
But I concede that a successful tablet will need many gestures for acceptance. And Apple seems well positioned to deliver those features.

exactly what I would buy if one can write on it with a pen and the OS will be modified for mobile use.

Isn't the stuff on screen from the leopard promotional pictures?
Also I think that if they did make a Mac tablet it would be more of a convergence of an iPod Touch and Leopard, as in everything will be optimized for touch

It would be soooo killer to get the old apple logo on a new macbook pro or something...

Judging by the size of the nano and the USB connector, this "tablet" would be smaller than tiny. Now, if you look at the display in the context of that scale, the text on the screen would be completely unreadable.

Apple already overhauled the OS X for touch - it's called iPhone OS.
I have my doubts anyone will ever see a Mac tablet in the same vein as Windows tablets, but I can see Apple at some point might make a 7-10" UMPC version of the iPod touch with a little more juice under the hood.

I agree. That pic looks so nice, really the main 'objection' I have to it is the OS. In that size, and at the price point Apple likely wants to hit, a Touch OS-based device seems so much more feasible.
OTOH those EEE notebooks with OS X installed seem to run reasonabl well...
Zeromaru said 1:19PM on 9-17-2008
Oh, I wasn't referring to the screen size, just the touch. Touch-based interfaces, though more natural, aren't a replacement for a mouse and it's no small task appending a touch-based interface to a mouse-based system. Just go to any Best Buy or Futureshop and look at those touchscreen all-in-one Windows PCs and see just how badly they're done, but they also the best that can be done. Every time I try to use one, it takes me twenty tries just to close a program.
That being said, Apple's best bet to compete against netbooks is to load it with iPhone OS (perhaps with a little more Mac features, like a mouse driver, iWork, Terminal, and unsigned apps). It's actually #1 on my wishlist of non-existing Apple products.
Stephen Lang said 1:43PM on 9-17-2008
I wasn't objecting to the size either. ;-) By 'in that size', I meant the compromises or expenses required to shove a full Mac OS X experience inside a pretty small and thin case.
Whereas if they use the iPod Touch or iPhone as a starting point, wow look at all that extra volume to make the tablet even better...
