XBMC remote for iPhone
Following the newly updated Remote application from Apple, there's now a new remote application (iTunes Link) that allows you to control your XBMC Media Center with the iPhone. Obviously to use it you'll have to have a computer (or Xbox) running XBMC, which is available in versions for Xbox, Mac, Linux, and Windows. Features include:- Play, queue and shuffle the media on XBMC
- View cover art for albums, TV Shows and movies
- View artist and album reviews and information
- 'Standard' remote mode. Control XBMC with standard remote buttons
XBMC is available from iTunes for $4.99.

I'm a huge fan of XBMC, but I don't know about spending $5 for this app. For one, XBMC itself is completely free. Two, you can access the web remote for XBMC with Safari on your iPhone anyways, even though it's not specifically iPhone-formatted. (And I seem to remember that someone came out with a script not too long ago to make it iPhone friendly anyways...)

There are two open source XBMC remote apps for jailbroken phones. XBMC is open source and free, the iPhone remote should be too.

Ok pal..explain to these good people how one jailbreaks their phone...and who to give the pieces to if it fails.
Oh, while you are at it, also explain how one ports GPL'd apps to the AppStore.
Then, once we are all squared away on THAT, clue everyone in that doesn't want to void their devices warranty to run such an app, how exactly the process goes for developing said app on the phone for AppStore distribution...or even private "Ad-Hoc" distribution without out-of-pocket of at least $100.
Thx!

How are the new meds KC? Maybe think about reducing the dose a little huh?

90% of the people who have XBMC running on their xBox had no trouble installing a modchip/softmod on their xBox, which is 100x harder than jailbreaking an iPhone (not that it's hard by any means). And here in the time of Pwnage how many people are really screwing up their phones to a point where it cant be restored (very very few).
While I dont agree the App should be free, $5 is too much. Personally I use my Harmony remote to control my XBMC.

I grabbed the app and was happy to pay the $5. With all the hard work the XBMC developers have done it's the least I could do to help the XBMC ecosystem. It's apps like this that will bring XBMC to more of the masses and IMO, that's a tremendous thing.
Oh, and did I mention the app works exactly as advertised? No problems to report and makes controlling music wicked easy.

I, too, was happy to spend $5. Nothing "should" be free. It either is or it isn't. This isn't. For what it is worth, it works flawlessly, is very simple to setup (for those of us that don't want to jailbreak) and looks great.
I have a universal remote too, but that method doesn't work when the TV is not on (such as when I just want music). And the web GUI is not as responsive as this little app (and yes, I have used the plain old web GUI, the iPhone web GUI linked to above AND the AJAX web GUI).
This is the bomb.
