Apple updates MobileMe control panel for Windows

Today, Apple updated the MobileMe control panel for Windows. Update 1.2 "provides better support for syncing a large number of contacts (more than 2,000) and prevents syncing of data between Microsoft Exchange Server and MobileMe, a configuration that is not supported."

This control panel is required to use MobileMe syncing/iDisk on a Windows computer. This update requires Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2, or Windows Vista SP1 or later. You must have iTunes 8.0.1 or later installed.

You can download this update from the Apple Support website.

I'm contemplating a lawsuit, if I don't find one already in progress, as this would completely break the whole purpose that I had in purchasing an iPhone and getting locked into an AT&T 2 year plan. Apple advertised that it syncs with Exchange and to kill it is a deal breaker for me.

Maybe I should have gone for the iPAQ afterall...

Well, I guess I now know why the nearly three weeks I've spent going back and forth with Apple's tech support on my inability to sync my work Windows laptop with MobileMe! Syncing with Exchange is now "not supported".

Since no-one seemed to advise of this over the past three weeks, I can only guess that this was either a policy decision or it never worked properly and this is how Apple declares victory and moves on.

I'm speechless. Isn't this one of the most obvious ways to get updated calendar and contacts synced? Not every organization runs ActiveSync for Exchange.

I've always been very happy with Apple, but the cluster that is MobileMe has really dented my faith in them.

What a farce!

I downloaded mobile me dashboard tonight and it proceeded to reduce my 100's of contacts on my computer and iphone to 2. I have tried system restore and that did not work.. My contacts are not backed up on a flash. I thought my iphone was better than a flash. I am FURIOUS. This action was taken by mobile me without any dialogue boxes or questions. Just "poof".

Hi,

Don't download this!!

I did this mistake and now, I cannot sync my contacts and my calendar with Exchange anymore. What a shame ! It worked perfectly and I don't understand this Apple's decision.

Any ideas about the way to go back to the MobileMe 1.1 version? Does it mean I have to stay with iTunes 8.0.0 too?

Great, I was hoping for an update on Exchange syncing with MobileMe... unfortunately it's gone completely the wrong way :(

I guess they believe if you want Exchange syncing on your iPhone you are able to convince your monolithic glacial-pace IT department to enable it directly on the Exchange server. Shame.

You can no longer sync Microsoft Exchange Server with MobileMe after this upgrade.

Why would they take this out?
