Migration DVD and CD Sharing update available
Apple has released Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update 1.1. While Software Update states that the update is recommended for all users, the support page lists the MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) and MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) as the affected machines. According to Apple, this update "... provides enhanced customization capabilities and improved performance for migration over FireWire, ethernet, and wireless networks."
This update is 11.1MB in Software Update. If you experience any trouble after installation, let us know.

I downloaded and installed this update, but I seem to be having trouble finding my firewire port on my new MacBook.

This is on the install DVD of the new MacBook/Pro. It tells you to put the disc in your OLD Mac to install this which then enables setup assistant to copy data from your old Mac using Ethernet instead of FireWire.

So like over an ethernet network or ethernet cord connected between both computers?

THIS IS EXCELLENT.
I have the 2.53 new MacBook Pro, and for some reason, the migration assistant was being really funky last night when I was trying to migrate over.
Hopefully if anyone else had the problem, this might fix it

I did a TimeMachine update on my 2.0Ghz MacBook yesterday AM. Used that image to migrate to my new 2.4Ghz Pro. What I got was a TM backup from several months ago. Go figure!?!

I just updated my 3.1 MacBook Pro and after the update my Mac crashed and now it's seems to remain in that state.
Software Update crashed after the update and all other apps became irresponsive, I couldn't reboot either. So I turned off my Mac, Booted again and now I can't launch any app, not even the Finder, shutting down won't work either and after doing a hard restart again my Mac will show the same symtoms...
Hands off!

Update what? I have a Powerbook, and I've never installed this Migration Assistant. Why would I want this, considering the new shiny-screen portables now compete with V-Tech?

I have a 2007 Macbook Pro and this update just popped up. Installed and no issues. Woo for my Firewire port, 400 and 800!

@Felix_Jung - The same thing happened to me. My machine is only useable when booted into safe mode. Of all days for this to happen, I have a deadline today. *sigh*

Has anyone had a problem with burning cds or dvds after installing migration. I cant burn anything at all. I keep getting an unknown error. Migration and Airport extreme were the last updates i installed.

I've just tried to burn an audio CD via iTunes for the first time since installing this update. Whereas previously I had no issues with any brand of disc, I now -everytime - get an error reporting 'the attempt to burn a disc failed'. I've tried unsuccessfully with two brands of discs and at different speeds. Nothing works. Of course, it could be coincidence that this problem has occured, although I suspect not. Further experimentation lies ahead, although in the meantime I'd be appreciative of any advice.
