New iPhone Ad: Dilemmas

While most of us were watching the general election results last night, some were watching the new iPhone ads. Apple released a new ad yesterday called Dilemmas (and it didn't have anything to do with the election). Apple conquers the "age old dilemma" of where to grab a bite to eat -- with an iPhone app of course.

In this ad, the UrbanSpoon [iTunes link] application is demoed. In the closing of the ad, the narrator says, "That's the iPhone; solving dilemmas, one app at a time." You can watch the new ad by visiting the iPhone ads page. You can also watch it via a direct video link.

Thanks for the tip, Toren!

Unless they did another ad about UrbanSpoon, I could've sworn this ad came out at the same time as the MLB ad. Or a week or so ago I saw the future!!!

Its like Deja Vu all over again :)

That's not a dilemma. A dilemma is a choice between two equally unpleasant alternatives. So unless you're in a neighbourhood with exactly two bad restaurants, it's not a dilemma.

I'm no expert, but I guess it depends on the source you trust. Is The Meriam Webster Dictionary not a trusted source?

"Although some commentators insist that dilemma be restricted to instances in which the alternatives to be chosen are equally unsatisfactory, their concern is misplaced; the unsatisfactoriness of the options is usually a matter of how the author presents them. What is distressing or painful about a dilemma is having to make a choice one does not want to make."

How come AT&T started to make their own iPhone ads? I saw the network ads and they all end with AT&T instead of the Apple logo, yet the ad is exactly like the ones Apple makes. Does Apple make AT&T's iPhone ads, and why not publish them on the iPhone ad area.

P.S. I am pissed Apple got rid of the hallway ad.

I believe ad was actually released the night prior, not last night. As I saw it Monday night here in the Bay Area.

Urban Spoon is a great App. I just wish they had more cities in there!

It's really bad practice to post a direct video link, it's almost like embedding an image on a third party site in your own webpage. TUAW should know better.

I disagree.

Unlike embedding an image, when you link directly to a video, the URL is clearly visible and attributes the video to it's source.

Have they always used that, "Sequence Shortened" in their adds?

I remember there being a little hullabaloo about the fact that the things they do in the adds do not actually take that little time and I was wondering if including that phrase on the screen was some kind of response to that.

I believe it first appeared in the MLB.com At Bat ad.

The app takes a few moments to lock on to your location (I've had it for a few months; it's not irritating, really, and it is necessary) and that's not shown in the ad. I do think it should say "App startup sequence not shown" or something similar, but it does do a good job of showing what the app does. It's shortened, but not by a great deal. I guess it's a cover-your-ass thing.
