iPhoneHellas: 2.2 coming November 21

According to iPhoneHellas.gr, version 2.2 of the iPhone firmware will be made available on November 21. The site says that the tipster is "reliable" but offered few details. Gizmodo calls the site "consistently reliable."

The tipster did say, however, that the update will not contain Greek keyboard support. Rumor has it that the update will contain:

There is still no word, of course, about the most requested and elusive of options: copy and paste. Gizmodo seems to think that -- if the release date is indeed on the 21st -- the major features of the update have been frozen. Looks like we'll have to wait until 2.3.

I was told by an Apple Genius about the coming release, although he did not provide a date and only said "soon." There is a very annoying issue that I hope 2.2 will resolve. When you connect an iPod Touch to iTunes and it Syncs, the time zone on the iPod Touch is changed back to Cupertino, no matter what time zone is set on the computer. And yes, we need copy paste functionality. The only thing you can do is save pics from emails.

In response to comment num 19 by "Clark" the App that lets you type email in landscape view is called "EasyWriter" and is free through the App Store.

More than anything else I just want Safari to work for more than 5 minutes without crashing.

Someone above suggested that it only crashes after being jailbroken - thats rubbish. I've never jailbroken my phone and it crashes all the time.

I've tried everything, including restoring and not installing any apps and it crashed 5 mins later.

it is so disheartening that the major things like push, copy/paste, and even turn by turn directions are being skipped over for trivial things like the location of the Google search bar, street view, and emoji icons. i wouldn't care so much if this was a 2.1.1 update but to call this a 2.2 update is just not right.

I still haven't seen any explanation at all for why it doesn't do MMS.. crappy 8-year-old phones can do it, and not the iPhone? Makes no sense.

Because with e-mail, MMS is "unnecessary" because the functionality is the same. I agree, it would make things a little easier, but for now:

I've had my auto-correction disabled since August with KB AutoCorrect which can be downloaded via Installer, figured most people did the same.

My list of missing features:
* Flash
* MMS
* Copy/Paste
* Landscape SMS

Perhaps the most difficult is Flash. Other than a little optimizing and stability fixes, these little additions would make the iPhone perfect for me.

It is really strange. It took them two months to develop these features and most of the would require to an Apple engenier a couple of days. Apple looks really understaffed... maybe they are working hard for a new product.

What amazes me is that they are providing an option to turn off auto-correction instead of fixing it. I think that the feature is awesome: it just needs a bit of polishing.
For example before 2.0 it was working better, especially in some languages where it now continues to suggest the accented word that rarely is the desired one. Learning seems broken. And the improvements seem easy to add. It could allow to select the desired word from a list or even better use simple grammar rules to improve dramatically accuracy.

The iPhone can be far faster for typing than the blackberry if the keyboard would be improved. Immagine it: you just type without caring too much and 99% of the time it gets the word right.
